In Celebration of

Lucia Laconca

December 15, 1930 -  November 30, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Lucia Laconca, who passed away on November 30, 2024, at nearly 94 years of age.

Lucia was predeceased by her sister Giovanna, and leaves behind the younger sister she so dearly loved, Albina, and brother-in-law Pio, as well as her nieces and nephews Vito, Antonella (Andrew), Danny (Leah) and Tina (Damien). She also leaves behind her adoring grand nieces and nephews Tristan, Cassandra, Lucas, Julian, Juliana, Caesar and Bradley.

Lucia was born in the town of Castelmezzano, Italy, and moved around in childhood as her father brought electricity to various towns. She later spent two years in Paris as a seamstress apprentice, after which she returned to Bella, Italy to be a wedding dress maker. When her sister Albina moved to Toronto, Canada with her new husband, Lucia followed and had a long career as a designer-seamstress during which time she made many friends. All who knew her, including neighbors and caregivers, felt the warmth of her spirit. No one could ask for a more devoted daughter, sister, aunt or friend than Lucia. And to her nieces and nephews she was a bonus mom, a teacher, a storyteller, a confidant, a supporter. Throughout her life, she was unassuming, selfless, independent, funny, and always ready with a sweet smile, a genuine compliment, a wonderful meal, a cup of coffee, and an affectionate air kiss. She will be greatly missed.

If you wish, leave a sympathy message to the family in the guestbook on this memorial page of Lucia Laconca to show support.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St.W., Toronto, on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2-5 pm.

Funeral Mass will be on Monday, December 9th, 2024 at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 1415 Royal York Rd, Etobicoke., at 10 am. Interment will follow at Glendale Mausoleum, 1810 Albion Rd, Etobicoke.

I asked Antonella if she would ask Lucia if I could go to her house just to spend time learning Italian just talking; Antonella asked her and without hesitation she said yes . She was generous with her time and so very hospitable. I only wished I spent more time with such a lovely woman.
I moved further away and had to stop.
God bless you Lucia on your journey home to be with your relatives and your heavenly Father.
My prayers are for you.

With much sorrow we learn of the passing of Lucia. Since a young woman, I remember Lucia as my mom Rosa ‘s best friend, neighbour and confidant. She and the Ferrone were like family and even after all these years we never lost touch. We cherish her warm and gentle hospitality, the espresso cup always ready, the stories of her youth in Paris and the kind mutual support over the years. To all members of the Ferrone family our deepest condolences. J.K. (Geppina) Caliendo
