Lois went peacefully to her rest with the Lord on September 22, 2024. She was 99, born in Toronto on March 28, 1925; daughter of Alec and Helene Waters; and sister to Douglas Waters of London, Ontario who pre-deceased her. She was married May 28, 1949 to ophthalmologist Dr. Douglas W. Harper who died in 1998. Lois is survived by her two daughters JoAnne (John) and Karen. She was a fun-loving Grandma to five grandchildren: Andrew (Tina), Christy (Jonathan), Julie, Becky (Chris) and Douglas (Mary Catherine). She was a Great Grandma (GG) to Makayla, Josiah, Arianna, Nathan, Oliver, Joshua, Esme, Wells and Adelaide. During her lifetime she was an active participant in sports: basketball, curling, tennis and golf. In her later years she avidly watched tournaments in golf and tennis. She was an excellent self-taught seamstress making many of her own clothes including her two daughters’ wedding dresses. She excelled as a hostess and was an outstanding cook. She was always up for a party and enjoyed a celebration particularly at Christmas.
She loved Jesus Christ and served faithfully in her church, Westmount Bible Chapel and led Bible studies in her home. For decades she also served in Christian Women’s Club. A highlight was her work with her husband with Medical Missions International for 25 years taking eye care to disadvantaged people in Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Mexico and Ecuador. For many years their home was a workshop for processing used eye glasses and preparing for the annual ministry trips.
Lois will always be in our hearts. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
A family burial service will be held at Sanctuary Park Cemetery (1570 Royal York Road, Etobicoke), after the funeral service at Turner & Porter York Chapel and lunch reception.
