Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Brother, Cousin, Friend, King of Smiles and Dance. Leonard Dey entered eternal life on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto, at the age of 79. Beloved husband of the late Anne Elizabeth, Leonard is survived by his loving children, Jamila Godfrey (John), Selina Dey (Kyle), Leonard Thomas (Holly), Earl Dey (Arlet) and Aubrey Dey (Gillian) including numerous treasured grandchildren, cherished friends and extended family both near and far. Leonard entered the world on March 30, 1941 born in Mackenzie, Guyana to Sylvia Edghill and (Leonard) Edward Henry Dey. He grew up with 6 loving and supportive siblings whom he was known to protect and watch over – Claudette Dey, Gloria Coleman (d.), Bryan Dey (d.), Hazel Bond (d.), Joan Dey (d.) and Marlene Sutton (d.). As a young man starting his life in Guyana, Leonard travelled the world sailing large container ships delivering Bauxite from Linden, Guyana along the Demerara River. Through his life’s adventures, he met the love of his life Anne Elizabeth at a mutual friend’s house party in Toronto, Ontario where they danced the night away and were married soon after, remaining married for 49 beautiful years. Leonard spent the majority of his career in Canada working at Sunworthy Wallcoverings and taught his children the importance of responsibility, integrity, independence and value. Leonard had style and a love for Jazz and Motown music. From snake skinned platform shoes in the 1970’s to a multitude of Fedora hats, you could always catch him singing “A Change Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke or “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” by Aretha Franklin. An avid album collector, Leonard would spend his down time listening and reminiscing to records while drinking a nice cold Coors Light. Leonard will always be remembered for the way he would whine he waist on the dancefloor, his bright smile that would light up a room and the sense of comfort that he brought to so many. Although he may no longer be here with us in the physical world, his spirit lives on eternally in the afterlife where he will continue to dance all day everyday with his sweetheart. As Leonard would say – It’s bacchanal time.
