In Celebration of

Leonard Adam Meikle

August 9, 1929 -  December 31, 2022

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Saturday December 31, 2022. Len is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret “Pearl” (2016); loving Dad to Craig (Theresa), Brian (Candy) and Lynn (Steve); proud Papa to Johnathan, Cameron, Christy, Mathew, Kyle, Brianne, Michael and Cole.

Len was born in Brandon Manitoba, on August 9, 1929, the youngest of four boys. The family returned to Scotland shortly after his birth where he attended Ayr Academy and was an avid rugby player. He enlisted in the RAF for two years followed by the completion of a five-year engineering apprenticeship at Western S.M.T. Co. Limited in Kilmarnock. In 1952 he returned to Canada with his bride-to-be Pearl. He continued his interest in aviation working for Orenda Engines and De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, while earning a private pilot’s licence. The lion’s share of his working career (32 years) was spent at Litton Systems Canada, from where he retired in 1995 as Vice President of Programs. He made many friends here, especially his Skyline running group. They trained for and travelled to marathons, even running in some!

From Patagonia to Fiji Len and Pearl travelled extensively. Their favourite location was the Gold Coast of Australia, where they avoided many Canadian winters. Len was an avid reader of politics and history with a special interest in all things Winston Churchill. He and Pearl spent many happy hours with their grandchildren at their pool and many family events. Len had a quiet generosity, and you always knew he was there if you needed him. He will be greatly missed by his family.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Len to be held:
Home Smith Bar, inside the Old Mill Inn & Spa
9 Old Mill Road, Toronto
Thursday, January 26, 2023
1:00 – 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

To the family: So sorry to hear of Len’s passing. I worked with your Dad as part of the Program Managment team during my years at Litton Systems (Canada) Ltd. He was a fierce defender of the department and his employees and always had a story to tell. My sincere condolences as you process the loss - he will be missed by many.
