William R.G. Lawlor

April 30, 1943 -  October 1, 2024

Bill passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 1, 2024 at the age of 81.

He is survived by his two daughters Amy and Julie (Paul); and predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy Lawlor; his mother, Marjorie Sparks; his father, William Lawlor; and brother, Garry Lawlor. He is also survived by his stepfather, Hugh Sparks (Bernice); brother, Sam Lawlor (Sarah); sister, Gail Lauzon (Kevin); and brother, Bob Sparks (Bev).

Bill was born and raised in Stittsville, Ontario where he went on to attend high school at South Carlton where he met his sweetheart Judy. He graduated from Carlton University with a Commerce degree in economics and accounting.

Bill had a successful professional career spanning over 40 years as a Chartered Accountant. He was a recognized leader in the tax community starting his working career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, going on to work at the Department of Finance in Ottawa developing tax rules and concepts, some of which still stand today. He then became a partner at KPMG predecessor Ernst & Whinney where he had many accomplishments some of which included leading the Greater Toronto Area tax group, a member of the Board of Directors which culminated in him being named Chairman of the Board.

Outside of his work life he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and whenever he had a free moment you could always find him out on the golf course. He also enjoyed summers at the family cottage and many winters down in Naples, Florida.

He was a loving friend and devoted father who will forever leave a void in our hearts.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel at 2357 Bloor St. W., on Sunday October 6th from 2-5 pm. Funeral service will be held at Kingsway Lambton United Church, 85 The Kingsway, Toronto on Tuesday October 8th at 2:00 pm

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bill may be made to the charity of your choice.
