Lachlan McNair

January 19, 1941 -  June 4, 2020

Born in Glasgow, Scotland January 19, 1941; emigrated to Canada August 7, 1947; passed away in the early hours of June 4, 2020, at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Beloved brother of James (Norma); adored uncle of Susan (Matthew Popowich) and great uncle of Henry; cherished cousin of Joyce (Noel) Churchman and the late Jean (F. James) Dart and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Respected colleague of many at Robarts Library, University of Toronto, where he worked for 41 years in Collections Development in Classics, Philosophy and German; dear friend of Richard Michna (Perle) and their children David and Benjamin; Sandra Alston; Steve Grenier; John Whitepost; and many others. Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, a private funeral and interment will be held.

It is with fond memories I remember Lachlan. He was instrumental in the development of the great subject specific collections the UofT Libraries are known. I am fortunate to have had the experience of working with him!

Toronto Branch-OGS members are saddened to learn of Lachlan’s passing.
Lachlan was a dedicated volunteer who made outstanding and lasting contributions to the transcription of the early Toronto House of Industry record books project.
At this difficult time, may you be comforted to know that Lachlan’s volunteer contributions, will bring joy and comfort for many decades to others who seek their family members in future .

My sincere condolences to the McNair family. Susan always spoke very fondly of her Uncle and I know he will be dearly missed. My caring thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.
