In Celebration of

Jakov Krajancic

August 28, 1934 -  January 26, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jakov Krajancic on Sunday, January 26th, at the age of 90. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, and expressing his love for them right to the very end.
Beloved husband of Milojka for 65 years. Cherished father of Nives (Karlo) and Dolores (David). Loving Dide (grandfather) to Luka (Kelly), Marko, Daniel, Adam, and Jacob. Proud great-grandfather to James and Leo, who continuously brought smiles to his face and joy to his life.

Jakov was predeceased by his parents and four siblings in Croatia. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces in Croatia, Canada, Australia, and Norway.
Jakov was born in Cara on the island of Korcula, Croatia. At the age of 22, he made a life-changing decision to leave his family and flee the communist regime in search of freedom and opportunity in the West. He escaped by boat to Italy, where he ended up in a refugee camp before eventually making his way to Toronto, Canada. Two years later, Milojka immigrated to Canada to be reunited with Jakov, and they were married at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church shortly thereafter.
Jakov was a man of integrity, a problem solver, who led by example and was a great mentor to his family. He never hesitated to share his wisdom and give guidance to others.

Despite life's many challenges, he faced them with positivity, a strong work ethic, and always remained rooted in his Catholic faith.
Jakov cherished spending time with his family. He will be remembered for countless family celebrations, his award-winning homemade wine, special family recipes for "kravut" and "zelje", his backyard barbecues, and fresh vegetables from his garden. He found enjoyment in solving crossword puzzles and passionately cheering on his favourite Croatian soccer teams.

Jakov imparted invaluable life lessons to his children and grandchildren, nurturing them throughout their formative years and instilling in them a profound appreciation for higher education. He was a steadfast source of support, celebrating their milestones and achievements with boundless pride.

We will miss you dearly and treasure the countless memories you have left with us. We will miss your voice, the twinkle in your eyes, your sense of humor, and your laughter. We will honour your legacy by continuing to live as you taught us - with compassion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family. Thank you Tata and Dide, for all you have blessed us with.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care team, especially Dr. Tupin and Nurse Andrew, for their compassionate care, which allowed Jakov to remain comfortably in his home until his passing.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Yorke" Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. West, Toronto (East of the Jane Subway at Windermere) on Thursday, January 30th, 2025, from 5 pm to 8 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church, 7 Croatia Street, Toronto, on Friday, January 31st, 2025, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Jakov was such a lovely man. I will always remember him as a good natured and caring individual who loved his family. I always enjoyed our family visits to the Krajancic house when I was a child. He made everyone feel special!

The world was lucky to have him.
