In Celebration of

Kevin Scot McBurney

October 20, 1963 -  October 16, 2024

Kevin Scot McBurney born October 20, 1963 and passed away suddenly October 16, 2024. His memory will be lovingly cherished by his life partner Annika and daughter Linnea; his father Campbell and his mother Gayle; numerous family members right across Canada and by friends both far and near.

Kevin could take a simple subject and turn it into a 30 minute story full of wit and intelligence but with a humour that often left the listener in stitches. He had a brilliant mind and could recall minute details from movies or books that he saw or read many years prior. His range of interests were widely varied: from books to computer games, astronomy to politics and he was well versed and always open for discussion or debate. He loved a challenge and would spend countless moments trying to solve a puzzle, whether at work as a plumber, on a computer game or even an abstract thought such as ‘are butterflies right-handed?’

If you had a dilemma, Kevin was only a phone call away (providing it was charged and in his hand) and he would be more than happy to provide advice, guidance, manpower or brainpower. Whatever he could do to help you out, he did.

He always treated people with kindness and respect. Whether it was the store cashier or a customer at work, his patience seemed endless. He enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge with anyone who would listen and in return, really listened to what people had to say.

Kevin came from a very musical family on both branches of the tree. His love of creating music led him down many roads from lightly tickling the ivories and dabbling with the banjo and fiddle, to rocking out Neil Young classics with the guitar and harmonica. Of course, he was not willing to travel alone so he brought Annika and her bass and Linnea on the drums along for the ride.

Kevin met his life partner later in his life and although he was older, he acted like a schoolboy when first speaking about Annika. From the very beginning, he was completely smitten and showed immense patience and pride when speaking of Linnea’s latest accomplishments.

At that stage in his life, it was wonderful to see him morph into a devoted family man who spent countless hours creating a safe and loving environment that they could all share.

Kevin’s quirky brand of wit and wisdom will bring smiles to all who knew him for many years to come. You only get to meet someone with such a joie de vivre once in a lifetime and you never forget them when you do.

Please join us at his Celebration of Life on Sunday, December 1, 2024 between1 and 4 p.m. at 1900 The Collegeway, Mississauga.

A celebration will also be held in Kevin’s beloved Townships in the Spring.

Kevin’s love for life has prompted the family to ask that consideration be taken in support of the following charities -

Musicounts in support of children’s music programs, The SPCA/Humane Society in support of animals who cannot help themselves of The Heart and Stroke Foundation funding research and support for those in need.

We met Kevin through Annika and instantly there was a connection of souls. Phil and Kevin quickly recognized a kindred spirit in each other with shared work skills. Annika and Linnea clearly were his whole world. He spoke of "his" Linnea with such pride and adoration. He'd tell you Annika walked on water, he adored her to ends of the earth.
Kevin will be so incredibly missed by all who met him, but surely most by family. The world has dimmed with his passing, but his love of life will live on in those whom he shared his life with. God bless you all.
