In Celebration of

Kathryn Ann "Katie" Brown

October 27, 1978 -  July 7, 2024

Kathryn Ann Brown (nee Haroun) died Sunday, July 7th while visiting her parents in Mississauga.

Katie leaves behind her loving husband, Kevin, beloved children, Lincoln and Addison, cherished daughter of Gamal and Jackie Haroun, heart broken brothers and sister, James, Christopher and Elizabeth.

Katie was born in Toronto on October 27th, 1978. She attended Fern Hill School and graduated from Appleby College as an Ontario Scholar. She then graduated from Dalhousie University with a double major in business and economics. Prior to settling down, she was a marketing manager for a Canada-wide entertainment company. She then extensively travelled the world.

Once she married, she devoted her life to her family, still travelling the world, including one year in Nicaragua.

Her kindness to others was unsurpassed and she and her family fed the homeless weekly. She made the soups and Kevin and the children made the sandwiches. Not long before her death, she told us of having lunch with her children in nearby malls and often asking a woman at a table close by sitting alone to join them.

Katie had a huge heart, and was one of those special people who never forgot a birthday, never turned her back on friends, always kept in touch with distant cousins and would do anything for anyone. She was fiercely loyal; once you were a friend of Katie’s, you were a friend for life.

Having been diagnosed with Lupus several years ago, she suffered greatly and was often bedridden, yet she homeschooled her children with such delight. She was also a survivor of cervical cancer. Given the health complications of Lupus, she often hid the severity of her illness from her family.

Katie will be sadly missed, leaving a huge hole in each of our hearts until we meet again in Heaven, in the presence of Our Merciful Father and Gentle Mother and oh so many relatives!

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please consider donating to Lupus Canada (lupuscanada.org).

The funeral will be private, with only family attending. A Celebration of Life will be planned for September or October at the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club.

“Dear Kevin, Lincoln and Addy. My heart is broken for your loss. Katie was a larger than life presence in my life during our winter in Nica and I treasure and will always treasure the crazy shenanigans we got up to and the memories we made. I always assumed at some point in time we would meet back there and drink some jaeger bombs together. Now I guess I will have to raise my glass in a toast to her love of life, her love for “her” people, and her passion to try anything once! My life is better having known her.”

I was so incredibly sad to hear about Katie’s death. We started at Appleby together in grade 8 - what a year that was! - and although were not in close touch still communicated occasionally about dogs, our kids and life. I am devastated for her kids, the same age as mine (I think our sons were actually born on the same day), and will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate this devastating time.
