In Celebration of

Karolina Jankovic (nee Ostrovski)

June 12, 1980 -  September 23, 2023

Karolina is survived by her children Adrian, Mila, and Petra; parents Halina and Christopher; sister Melissa, brother-in-law Andrew; sister-in-law Olivera; nieces and nephew Chloe, Ashlyn, Andrej, Tiana, and Natasha; husband Ivan as well all her extended family who continue to love her deeply and know they will all be together with her again one day.

Karolina was born in Rio de Janeiro on June 12, 1980. She is the most beautiful “girl from Ipanema”. Halina and Chris would take the girls to the beach before the workday, which they all very much enjoyed. When Karolina was a young child, the family decided to move to Winnipeg where Chris would work, and Halina would study.

Karolina completed her degree at the University of Toronto in Ibero-American studies. It was in the last year of her studies that she met Ivan in 2001. After several years of enjoying a wonderful young love and relationship, they got married in 2009.

Karolina welcomed their first child, Adrian, into the world in 2011. Two years later, Mila graced the family with her presence in 2013, and Petra followed in 2015. Karolina's profound love and commitment to her children and husband crafted a life for them that felt nothing short of perfect. Every morning, as the children headed out the door for school, they would turn back to tell her she was the "best mama in the world." The family was truly fortunate to have Karolina at home with the children during those formative years, allowing them to cherish countless precious moments together.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated healthcare professionals at the Dorothy Ley Hospice, Trillium Health Network, and especially to those at Princess Margaret Hospital, for their support throughout this challenging year. The family firmly believes that, thanks to the outstanding care provided by Dr. Saibil and Dr. Martinez of PMH, we were blessed with the opportunity to cherish a beautiful summer with Karolina.

Furthermore, we would like to recognize the outpouring of support and love from our extended family, kumovi, and friends. Your support, in both tangible and intangible ways, has been a beacon of hope and strength for us.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations in Karolina’s memory can be made to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation to the Melanoma Immunotherapy Research Fund.

Dear Ivan and family,

Karolina was a wonderful, kind person. She was the first neighbour to introduce herself to us when we moved to the neighbourhood. She was always positive and inclusive, she offered helpful advice and thoughtful words each time I saw her. We send our deepest condolences to you all.
Please let us know if we can help in any way.
Our sincere regards,
Joley and Carl

It comes with a heavy heart to write our condolences; our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Although no words can describe the loss of a loved one, and at such a young age, it will come with peace knowing that she has blessed those around her with her beauty, inside, and out. Our hearts are saddened. God bless the family of this loss. From Harris and Daniela Christopoulos.

Our hearts break for your family and thoughts and prayers are with you. We were blessed when Karolina and Ivana moved into the court, and quickly learned what a thoughtful caring person she was that put her family first. Adrian, Mila and Petra your mom was the best and her love and watching for each one of you was everything to her. Karolina took time for the small things in life, and it was always nice to see Ivan and Karolina take time for each other and walk hand-in-hand in the neighbourhood to catch-up on the day.
Thinking of the entire family, and our thoughts and support are with you.
