In Celebration of

Karlis Jansons

April 7, 1958 -  September 18, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of “Laird” Karlis Jan Jansons, beloved husband and soulmate of Katherine Magee, and loving father to Andra and Janis Jansons. Born April 7 1958, he passed peacefully at St. Michael’s Hospital on September 18, 2024.

Karlis was predeceased by his parents, Harijs and Velga, and sibling Rita. He is survived by his older brothers Maris and Peter (Nash). He was the beloved uncle of Denver and Savannah. He also leaves his three cousins and their families: Raimonds (Cheryll, Jekabs, Ariana), Paul, and Andris. Of Latvian extraction, there is a large extended family in Toronto, the US, the UK and Latvia who loved him and will miss him deeply.

Karlis lived an incredibly full life: he was an accomplished hunter/outdoorsman, geotechnical mining engineer, avid traveler, gregarious host, raconteur, a Freemason, loyal friend, and mentor to many people professionally and personally. For all of us who knew him and loved him, he leaves in us a great abyss.

As a registered organ donor, he has extended the lives of others. He will continue to live on in our hearts, minds and souls.

We are so grateful for the prayers and love and positive thoughts received by the family.

Karlis’ celebration of life will be held at the Old Mill, 9 Old Mill Road, on Sunday October 27 2024 from 12pm-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation at stmichaelsfoundation.com/Karlis.

Karlis served as "Chief Cannoneer" during his own time at the UofT Engineering Skule(TM), and returned more recently to find an eccentric community of Chiefs, extending year after year to today. He brought to us all of his stories, his jokes (and puns), his advice, and his most memorable laugh. I am glad to have been able to call him my friend.

Karlis was an amazing man. I will miss his laugh, his sense of humor and his ability to understand the quirky sense of humour I have and my late husband John had

He was a tower of strength when my husband died

To quote Shakespeare “Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing the to thy rest”

Say hi to John and your family for me

So long my friend, I have fond memories, we first met in Sudbury, you walking Princess, Alex and I taking our new baby for walks. Three Geotechs living in the Kingsmount area. You have enriched my life with your passion for our profession and life. My deepest sympathies to your children and life partner, and your family. Until we meet again.
