In Celebration of

Karen Lyall

October 24, 1963 -  June 8, 2024

It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Karen on Saturday June 8th, 2024 at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues.

Beloved wife to David. Loving mother to Rebecca (Zack), Scott, and Geoffrey, she is forever missed at our home. We are blessed her siblings Marg (Carl), Debbie (Art), Jamie (Susan) and her amazing mother Audrey were able to comfort Karen and to enjoy the many special moments with Karen as she reminisced about good times.

Karen was born in New Liskeard in 1963 to Audrey and the late Robert, and after stays at remote communities such as Chapleau, Blind River, and Temagami the family settled down in Kapuskasing allowing Karen to make lifelong friends with Beth & Bruce, Gabe & Mike, Chris & Sue, and Wendy & Dennis, Karen traveled most summers to Kapuskasing to be with her special friends.

Karen an NICU nurse , studied nursing with Dawn at Canadore College in North Bay and was at St. Joe's for 23 years and previously 13 years at Mt Sinai , co-workers admired her saying she was their favourite person at work.

For many years, Karen and Dawn's families vacationed together in Prince Edward County enjoying the beaches and sunsets thanks to her best friend Nancy being from Picton.

Karen an avid crafter, along with Nancy attended the one of kind show every year, getting inspiration for her many cross stitch projects given to family and friends and are the focal point of Christmas trees.

Music was always with Karen, especially the 70s bands, Rebecca and Geoffrey attended many concerts with her bringing a new mug home on each occasion.

Karen enjoyed attending Autism conferences with David to better support Scott and are thankful we have Xana, Candace, Gary, Maureen, Don, and Baba to be with Scott when we are away.

Thanks to all the doctors and nurses at St. Joe's who were able to give us the time we had with Karen which we are very grateful.

Blessed is the life that finds joy in the journey.

Dear Dave, Rebecca, Scott and Geoffrey: I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts. I was so lucky to have met Karen at the town’s museum when a photo of her dad was displayed in my exhibit about Kap’s Masonic Lodge. From that moment, we were friends! She was lovely. I am so sad.

We met at the Kindergarten doors, Karen with Rebecca and me with Zach, and started a friendship that would span 30 years. We would talk for hours about family, friends, work, whatever our hearts desired. Always one to give love, support, inspiration … and if I was lucky, one of her Mom’s famous words of wisdom. Following yet another recent setback I asked Karen what her Mother’s response was and she said “ And so we carry on” … and so we shall, my Angel Karen 💕
