Julio Nino Catani

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Julio Nino Catani, with the love of his life by his side, on Monday, May 9th, 2022, at the age of 64.
Julio was the husband, best friend, and soulmate of 32 years to his wife Vera. Devoted father, to the light of his life Sarah, he will be sadly missed by his sisters Gabriella (Rob) Ciccanti, Gina (Bob) Farrugia. Nieces, Nicole, Laura, Jessica and his god daughters Emily Ciccanti and Jessica Way. He will be dearly missed by his family in Italy, the large Way family he inherited when he married Vera, many friends, as well as brothers and sisters from his local 707 Unifor family.
Son to his predeceased parents, Teresa & Ottavio Catani, grandparents, Domenico & Lucia Catani, Giulio & Nicolina LaTorre and his mother-in-law Sarah Fanny Way.
Julio was born January 11th,1958, in Pescara, Italy and at the tender age of three months his journey to a new land began. April 12th, 1958, with his parents, he arrived at Pier27 in Halifax, took the train to Ontario, and settled in Mississauga.
Julio began his dedicated career when he joined, The Oakville Assembly Plant at Ford Motor Company on August 15th, 1977, and became a proud member of CAW Local 707, where he was a dedicated union activist. During his 43 years of service Julio held many positions, prior to his retirement May 1st, 2021, he was the appointed Unifor Training Coordinator for 12 Years.
In addition to his local union work, Julio spent countless hours working with his Nation Union, organizing. Served on the CAW Halton-Peel Regional Environment Council, United Way of Oakville, Oakville District Labour Council and a Director on the Board of Twin Oak Credit Union.
Julio was an avid golfer who collected the score cards from everywhere he golfed and posted them in his office. Some of his most favorite places were in Cape Town South Africa, Bali Indonesia, and Cabot Cliffs in Nova Scotia. He loved camping, canoeing, and fishing in his favorite place on earth, Temagami, Ontario.
Julio was a special person. A loving son, brother, uncle, a devoted husband and dedicated father, a kind, loving soul and everyone who knew him loved him. Julio always had a story to tell that would make you laugh and remember him forever.
Julio’s passion for life and his desire to show his family the world has left them with a lifetime of memories to cherish and keep him alive forever.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel 2180 Hurontario St., Misssissauga on Sunday, May 15 from 5-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel on Monday, May 16 at 11 a.m. and entombment to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens.
