In Celebration of

Julienne Alakorpi

May 9, 1963 -  February 12, 2025

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Julienne (Jill) Marie Alakorpi (Jarvis) on February 12, 2025. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, after a nine-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jill was born on May 9, 1963, in Atikokan, Ontario to Phillip and Marlene Jarvis. She was the fourth of seven siblings. Jill was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Tap (deceased) and a caring mother to her son, Ari.

Jill grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario where she attended Westgate High School and later graduated from Lakehead University with a degree in Marketing. In 1986, she met her soulmate, Tap, and the two married in 1990. They then moved to Mississauga to begin their new life together. In 2001, they welcomed their first and only child, Ari.

Jill started her career as a merchandiser (buyer) for J.B. Evans, a local clothing store in Thunder Bay, and later worked in the sales department for Yellow Pages in Mississauga. Once Ari was born, Jill retired and devoted herself to raising her family at home.

Jill had a passion for clothing, baking, cooking, and gardening. For many years, she spent the later days of spring in the yard, cultivating beautiful flower arrangements to enhance the property. Jill was also a skilled cook and baker, enjoying preparing meals and sweet treats for her loved ones. Together with her husband Tap, Jill hosted many memorable family gatherings, especially large Canada Day and Christmas celebrations where there was always an abundance of homemade food and drinks.

Jill’s love for clothing extended beyond her time at J.B. Evans. She was an avid shopper, often picking out new outfits not only for herself but also for Tap and Ari. Both of them regularly consulted her on their outfits before leaving the house.

Jill is survived by her son, Ari, as well as her father, Philip Jarvis, and her mother-in-law, Saara Alakorpi. She is also survived by her siblings: Guy (Laurie), Marc (Linda), Marielle (Mauro), Colleen, and Karen (Rob), along with many nieces and nephews.

Jill was predeceased by her father-in-law, Pauli Alakorpi, in 2011; her mother, Marlene Jarvis, in 2019; her husband, Tap, in February 2025, who left first to ensure her safe, loving welcome to heaven; and her brother, Timothy, in 1961.

Our family would also like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to the oncology department at Credit Valley Hospital for their care of both Jill and Tap during their battles with cancer. We would especially like to thank Dr. S. Berry, Dr. A. Muinuddin, Dr. E. Kuhlmann, the REACT clinic and Carepartner nurses Jevaney and Christine, who all provided exceptional care and went above and beyond for Jill and Tap.

A celebration of life will be held for both Jill and Tap on Saturday, February 22nd, at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel location at 3pm with visitation beginning at 2pm. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
