Julianna Potocny (nee Walter) was born in eastern Slovakia to Michael and Anna Walter and immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of 6 months. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Stefan (1998). She is survived by her sons Stephen (Anne Milochik) and Mark and grandson Brandon; her brothers Ted (Dorothy) and Ed (Ernestine) and nephews Christopher and David.

Julie was a very social and creative woman. She had many friends among her neighbours and church associates. She was particularly happy with her involvement with the 50 Plus seniors group at St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church. Her creativity encompassed many forms: from hosting lively themed parties with husband Steve at their home, to painting in various media, and especially to crafting intricate ceramics. She was devoted to her family and was very proud of her sons and their achievements. She had a special and cherished relationship with her nephews. Her brothers provided support in various ways throughout her life.

She survived many health challenges over her 97 years including polio as a child and more recently heart disease and arthritis. She was determined to stay at home as long as possible and in that goal was aided considerably by her children who all took a role in ensuring her well-being and comfort. Julie also received loving attention and friendship over the last three years from her caregiver Julie Kent which the family truly appreciated.

Julie’s last few months were spent at Kipling Acres Long Term Care where she received thoughtful, thorough, and attentive care from the staff. The family is extremely grateful to the comfort they provided in her last few weeks.

A private family funeral is taking place, and a celebration of life is planned for the near future at the Turner and Porter Peel site. As a tribute to Julie, donations may be made to St. Philip’s Church, Etobicoke, or to Kipling Acres Long Term Care Residence.
