In Celebration of

Julia Elizabeth née Lobo De Sousa

November 19, 1931 -  November 7, 2022

Our dear Mother, Grandma and Avo passed away peacefully on Monday November 7, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents Pedro Joaquim Lobo and Ricardinha Fernandes Lobo, and loving husband Abilio De Sousa (d. 1994).

She leaves behind her children Nolasco (Maureen), Eric (Helen), Alison (Mark) and seven grandchildren Avila (Shaun), Christopher, Serena, Steven, Olivia, Nicholas, Richard and great grandson Cayden. Julia will also be missed by her many relatives and friends in Canada, England, Goa, Portugal, Australia and the USA.

Julia was born in Kenya but was raised in Goa after her father's untimely death at an early age. Julia and Abilio married in 1955 and lived their early married life in Nairobi, Kenya. They arrived in Canada with their three children in the late sixties. Life in Toronto was filled with joy and new friends. They spent many summer weekends together at picnics or house parties, where card games were played for hours. With their friends they also enjoyed many family road trips to the USA and cottage country. As their children grew older and entered post-secondary education or started jobs, Julia & Abilio travelled with friends to the Caribbean, Central America, Europe & the Middle East, including Egypt and Jerusalem. They also often visited her family home in Parra, Goa.

Julia had many friends worldwide, keeping in touch by writing long personal letters enclosed in Christmas cards. She was an amazing chef who graciously shared her expertise and recipes for Goan dishes. An avid gardener, she was proud to show visitors the beautiful flowerbeds at her home. Julia took up badminton (like her parents) throughout her life and even won a few truque card tournaments. She had an excellent eye for detail and fine arts, including embroidery, cross-stitch, crochet, and beading.

After Abilio died, Julia continued to visit her beloved mother annually in Goa until her later years. Julia and Abilio were active members of the original GOA club where they enjoyed many functions. Julie was also a member of the West End Seniors' Club until she moved to Credit River Retirement Residence in Mississauga.

Julia’s family wishes to thank the staff at CRRR, Credit Valley Hospital, Trillium Hospital & The Village at Erin Meadows. Special acknowledgement to mum's “ANGELS” Maricon, who went above and beyond her nursing duties at CRRR, and nursing manager Ida, who was so dedicated and loving toward Julia at Trillium Hospital.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Turner & Porter - Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin of Tours Parish, 1290 McBride Avenue, Mississauga on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.

Interment at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating towards The Goan Charitable Organization supporting its Outreach initiatives in Goa:
