In Celebration of

Jozefa Petkovsek

September 9, 1932 -  May 2, 2021

Jozefa peacefully passed away at Toronto General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Emil Petkovsek, loving mother to Emil Jr (Sue), Danny (Barbara), and Edward (Julie). She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Lisa (Brett), Dan (Emily), Max (Mehr), Ben, David, Brian, Amy, and great grandchild Leila. Jozefa was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She was the 3rd of eleven children born into the Zaletel family. In 1956 she met and married Emil Petkovsek the love of her life. Shortly after their marriage, they escaped from communist Yugoslavia through the Alps to Austria. A year later they decided to immigrate to Canada to start their new family in Winnipeg. They soon found jobs and began contributing, as so many post WWII immigrants did, to building the country that they now called home. Jozefa spent most of her working life as a seamstress and Emil as an electrician. In 1958 their first child Emil Jr was born. They decided to move to Toronto soon after. They had a son Danny born in 1960 and a son Edward born in 1968. Jozefa enjoyed spending time raising her family and running the family property management business with her husband Emil. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and attend to her garden. She was a devout Catholic and her time spent at church with her family was a favorite place to be. She was a very special loving, selfless and independent lady, never asking or wanting for anything. Whether you knew her as Josie, Jozefa, Mrs P, Grandma, or Mom, we are sure she meant a lot to you. She was one in a million. Let us celebrate her life through cherished memories. We love you. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice. Because of Covid restrictions, a small family service will take place.

We are thinking of you, Mr P, Emil and Sue and all the family as you mourn the passing of Mrs P. She was a lovely person; so devoted to her family.
