In Celebration of

Jozef (Joe) Moroz

May 17, 1942 -  October 8, 2023

Joe Moroz, born in Daszoiwka, Ukraine on May 17, 1942, peacefully passed away at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto on October 8, 2023, following a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Josephine Moroz, and remembered fondly by two sisters and one brother residing in Poland and predeceased by two brothers.

Joe's journey began in Poland, where he enlisted in the active military with the Polish Army. After relocating to Canada, he embarked on a fulfilling career as a Butcher and Fine Meat Purveyor. Joe worked in various roles across the City of Toronto, ultimately retiring as a Butcher with Maple Leaf Foods. Post-retirement, Joe dedicated himself to giving back to the Polish and Ukrainian communities. He proactively reached out to new families arriving in Canada, offering to assist with their appointments and helping them navigate the migration and social systems—a true pioneer of kindness.

Some might say that Joe was a private Uber, well before Uber even existed.

Joe, often with a Tim Horton's coffee in hand, had an insatiable love for road trips. His preferred destinations were the beautiful freshwater beaches of Ontario, with a special fondness for Wasaga Beach. Joe relished life, cherishing moments spent with his family and numerous nieces and nephews both in Ontario and back home in Poland.

Generosity defined Joe's character and he readily extended his support to those in need. He remained a pillar of strength for his extended family, nieces, nephews, close friends, and their children—mentoring, coaching, and assisting countless individuals in their journey to Canada.

Our family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff, nurses, and doctors at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto with special recognition to the Palliative Care team on the 5th floor. We deeply appreciate their dedication in ensuring Joe's comfort, care and love during his brief stay at the hospital.

In accordance with Joe's wishes, a visitation will be held at the Yorke Chapel within the Turner and Porter funeral home at 2357 Bloor Street West on Thursday, October 12th, from 5-8 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 6 pm during the visitation ceremony.

A funeral service will take place at St. Casimir's Church [ 156 Roncesvalles Ave, Toronto, ON M6R 2L4 ] on Friday, October 13th, at 10:00 am, followed by entombment at Assumption Catholic Cemetery [ 6933 Tomken Rd, Mississauga, ON L5T 1N4]. A small reception will be held after the entombment for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to honour Joe's memory, donations may be directed to support the St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Centre or any other charity of your choosing.
