In Celebration of

Joseph William Alward

May 31, 1939 -  December 13, 2023

Passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto on December 13, 2023, after a hard fought battle. Predeceased by his parents Thomas & Stella, siblings John (Jackie), Barbara and Gertrude.

Survived by his siblings; Grace, Margaret (Peggy), Thomas, Judy, Charlie, Mary, Carol Ann, Connie, Keith, and Donnie & numerous nieces & nephews.

In his younger years Joe inherited the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings, for which we are all enormously grateful. Joe owned his own Excavation business for many years. In the warm weather he loved to host gatherings at his home or cottage with his many family and friends and loved to hunt with his 2 nephews, who undoubtly have a few stories to tell. After his retirement, his passion was working on old cars and at times fixing any gadget that was broken.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W) on Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 5-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 625 Atwater Ave., Mississauga, on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 10 am.

Interment will be held at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's or Cancer Societies. Online condolences may be made through this website.

My Dear Uncle Joe, patriarch of the Alward clan, will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews. I have fond memories going to his house and cottage as a kid. He always welcomed me with a coke from his basement bar fridge and the would sneak rolls of toonies and loonies in my pockets telling me not to tell my Dad and to spend it on what I want. He may not have had children, but he loved his nieces and nephews like we were his own. He always enjoyed sharing stories and photos of my Dad as a kid which I will treasure forever. I love you uncle Joe, may you be at peace.

Joe had a genuine passion for giving back to others and never asked for much in return. He truly epitomized selflessness and generosity.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
