Joseph Donald O'Shea Q.C.

May 22, 1925 -  December 6, 2018

Joseph Donald O’Shea passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 6th, 2018 to join Margaret, the love of his life. Adored father to Jacques, Marie Estelle (Phil), Michael (Dorothy), Terrence (Susan), Timothy (Mary), Daniel (Melanie). Cherished grandfather to eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, in his 93rd year.

Born in Toronto on May 22, 1925, to Joseph D’Arcy and Pearl Mabel O’Shea. Pre-deceased by siblings Jack O’Shea (Pat) and Audrey Sullivan (David).

Don attended Holy Name grade school followed by St. Michael’s High School and then joined the RCAF for over two years. He went on to attend the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1950. Married on October 23rd, 1954 to Mary Margaret Roche.

After working for a few years in general practice, Don spent the majority of his legal career in the field of labour relations. Appointed Vice-Chairman and Alternate Chairman, Don was also bestowed with the designation of Queen’s Counsel during his tenure with the Ontario Labour Relations Board. Later on he entered into private practice as a labour relations arbitrator until his retirement in 2012 at the age of 87. Honoured as a Life Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada for over 50 years of exemplary service in 2012.

Don was an avid golfer and he learned to ski in his 50’s. Don and Margaret were active members at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club and also at Holimont Ski Club. They travelled the world extensively and regularly hosted memorable get-togethers for family and friends. He was loyal and generous to his family, friends and numerous charities.

Don was a faithful member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Clarkson. His unwavering faith gave him the courage to do what is right and persevere throughout his life. His wise counsel will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas St W, Mississauga, on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 5-8pm. Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at St. Christopher’s Roman Catholic Church, 1171 Clarkson Rd North, Mississauga. Reception to follow at Canyon Springs in the Sierra room, 1700 The College Way, Mississauga. In lieu of flowers, donations to “The Compass”, a Food Bank & Outreach Centre located in Port Credit, Ontario (www.thecompass.ca) would be appreciated.
