In Celebration of

José Melo Costa

January 24, 1930 -  September 3, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of José Melo Costa at the age of 90. José is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ermelinda; his children Joe (Dora), Fernando (Cidalia), Gail (Donald) and Mike (Silvia); his grandchildren, Deborah, Andrew, Tabitha, Nathan, Tyler, Billy, Victoria and Sienna; and his great grandchildren Celina, Bianca and Gabriella.

José was born in Ribeira Quente, Azores, Portugal and emigrated to Canada in 1959 where he set out to start a new life. He was the eldest amongst his siblings; João, Daniel, Conceição, Lucia and (Silvino, deceased). José was a devoted father, husband and as his grandchildren would call him, a loving vovo (avô). Having been brought up with strong values, he worked tirelessly during his life to provide for his family. Throughout his life, he maintained a strong faith in God and devotion to his church. José loved to tell stories about life in the Azores while sometimes adding a different plot or twist to the amusement of everyone. He will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends and all those that knew him to be a loving, giving and hardworking person. You will always be in our hearts, heaven has gained another angel.

A private service and entombment will be held. In light of the Covid-19 restrictions attendance is limited to family and close friends. José will be laid to rest at Assumption Catholic Mausoleum. For those who wish, donations may be made in the memory of José Melo Costa to Parkinson Canada

We sincerely appreciate your thoughts and prayers as you share in our sorrow at this time.
