In Celebration of

Jose Dutra de Andrade

March 16, 1940 -  November 9, 2025

Jose Dutra de Andrade, born March 16, 1940, peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, November 9, 2025 surrounded by his beloved wife, children and grandchildren.

Jose was the last surviving child, one of seven, of the late Francisco Dutra de Andrade Jr. and Maria Garcia Duarte; devout Catholics. Born on the island of Faial, Azores.

Jose was extremely fond of his father and loved learning from him, whether it be in the garden, fishing, milking the cows, or picking fresh lapas/crabs; he was happiest by his side. In his teens, a volcano eruption off the most western point of the island, forced an evacuation of the surrounding communities in 1957. At which point Jose’s family relocated to Ribeira do Cabo; this is where he met the love of his life, Maria Fernanda Rocha. After a mandatory two year Military service on Terceira Island, he returned home and continued his courtship. On the 30th of May, 1964, he married, and had five wonderful children; Jose Fernando (Jun), Maria Fatima, Antonio Manuel (Nancy), Francisco Dutra (Stephen), and Maria do Carmo (Brent).

In 1974, they immigrated to Canada, and were reunited with his siblings that had previously immigrated. After three months working at St. Lawrence Cement (1974 -2005), they purchased their first home, with a large backyard. This allowed him the opportunity to build a large garden, as he had an incredible passion for gardening.

Jose was a member of Local Lodge D366 of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers for 31 years. In preparation for his retirement, he sold his home in Oakville, then moved to Paris, Ontario, and resided there until his recent passing.

Jose will be fondly remembered for his quirky sense of humour by his grandchildren; Faith, Noah, Victoria, Joseph and Matthew. He would often times, turn his hat sideways, and make comical gestures.

In the later half of his life, he became a devout Christian…so much so, that he was nicknamed “Joe the Priest” at the Mississauga Cement Plant. It was not uncommon to hear Jose share his views about religion.

He is best known for his giving nature, honesty, religious beliefs and strong work ethic. He will be greatly missed by those that knew him.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., (Hwy 10, N. of the QEW) on Friday, November 14th from 4-8 p.m., Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, November 15th at 11 a.m. Interment at Glen Oaks Cemetery.

In memory of Jose, for those who wish donations may be made to VON Canada (under "Gift Designation" please select VON Brantford) or to the Stedman Community Hospice.

My dearest Frank...

I send my sincerest condolences to you and your family on the passing of your much beloved father Jose. I know it is a tremendous loss for all of you.

Perhaps knowing his suffering has ended and he is now with his Father in Heaven will bring you some comfort.

Much love...Vicki G.

My uncle was a great man with a heart of gold. He was always the life of the party full of jokes and stories of the old times. He was generous, loving and religious. I will miss you Tio and all your stories. God bless you, until we meat again. Love you always.
