In Celebration of

Jose Baptista

February 27, 1947 -  January 4, 2023

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jose Carlos Carvalho Baptista who died peacefully surrounded by family on January 4, 2023.

Jose was born to Leonor (predeceased) and Antonio (predeceased) in Faja de Cima (Ponta Delgada), on the island of Sao Miguel, in the Azores, Portugal. He immigrated to Canada in 1972 with his wife of 26 years, Maria de Fatima (predeceased) with whom he had four daughters who they adored. He went on to remarry his current spouse Maria do Carmo in 2001. Predeceased brothers: Victor Batista and Mario Batista.

He is survived by his loving wife Maria do Carmo; cherished father of daughters Fatima (Manny), Elizete, Rose Mary and Mandy (Theodore); sister Elizete Pereira and brother Antonio Batista. He is survived by 3 Grandchildren: Ryan, Diego and Lily Rose as well as 2 Great-grandchildren: Selena and Kaia Maria. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Jose loved caring for his home and garden as well as making homemade wine, watching soccer and cooking. Although he loved Canada, his favourite place to visit was his second home in his hometown of Ponta Delgada where he travelled to annually. He very much enjoyed attending Portuguese festas – in particular, Santo Cristo in Ponta Delgada. Family gatherings brought him the most joy, where you would often find him around his children and grandchildren.

We will always remember him for his kind and caring nature, generosity, strength, and work ethic, but mostly for his unconditional love. We will all miss him very much.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, support, concern, and kindness during this difficult time.

Fatima, I am so sorry about your dad's passing. His obituary is so touching and truly conveyed such a full life where he lived well, loved much, and laughed often. There is so much to be grateful for such a well lived life with so many positive impact on the lives of others.

It's never the right time
To say goodbye.
I will miss you, Dad,
And here is why.
You taught me so much:
To show no fear,
To always have fun,
And face the day with cheer.

You were always so able,
So fast and so strong.
In your daughters eyes
You could do no wrong.
You would always listen,
And you never pried.
You were always there,
When I cried.

You never looked for praises,
And you were never one to boast.
You were always there
For those you loved the most.

You worked so hard,
And those strong working hands
Led me through life
And helped me understand
That life can be hard,
And tough, and sad,
But through it all
I had my Dad.

And because of you,
I understood
That life was actually
Pretty good.
I believe in you
And will follow your path,
And when things go wrong,
I'll look back and laugh.

I hope you can hear me
So I can let you know
That you were and will forever
Be my number one.
So yes, today
I am full of sorrow,
But I will smile a little more
With each tomorrow.

So please, Dad, go
Be at rest
And know to me
You were always the best.

I love you so much and miss you every day!

My loving Dad, Being your daughter is the greatest honour of my life. Thanks for always being my role model, my support system and most importantly, my friend. I will forever try to live my life the way you showed us.
May you rest in eternal peace.
