In Celebration of

Jonas Zimkevicius

December 10, 1921 -  September 6, 2018

Carpenter Extraordinaire – Mr. “Fix It” – Accordion Player

Jonas passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years. Loving husband of 73 years to Valentina (nee Reimer). Cherished father to Regina (Audrius). Dear Papa of Ona (Bermuda), Mykolas (Vancouver), Vyta (New York City). Great grandfather of Daina, Simas, Leana, Alex, Ronan, and Claire.
Although Jonas was born into the moving borderlands of post WWI Lithuania and Poland, he spent most of his early life in Lithuania. Like many, the end of the Second World War took him to Germany. Here he met Valentina while playing music at a refugee camp social. Together they moved to the coal mine region of Belgium, before coming to Canada in 1951, where for many years he worked at Daniels Construction.
Jonas loved to tinker and could fix just about anything that had a motor. He was happiest picking mushrooms in the woods behind his summer home in Stayner, or while paying his accordion at numerous family events.
Donation in his name to Lithuanian summer “Camp Kretinga” or “The Church of the Resurrection Building Fund” would be appreciated.
