In Celebration of

Jon William Finnigan

January 17, 1950 -  November 10, 2020

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jon Finnigan. Surrounded by his loving family, Jon passed away peacefully in Toronto, on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020 after a short battle with terminal cancer. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Jennifer Marinangeli. Jon was a loving father to his son Christopher and his wife Robyn and a cherished grandfather ("Gramps") to their children Devyn and Quinnlan. He was also a wonderful stepfather to Rachel and her husband Lehel.

Loving son of the late Albert Finnigan and the late Hildegard Meincke. Predeceased by his beloved brother the late Patrick Finnigan. He will be missed by his sister Tracy and her husband Colin (Geitzler), his sister-in-law Cathy (Finnigan), his niece Ashleigh and nephews Ryan, Michael, Robert, Marc and their families.

Jon grew up in a small lakefront community that became his first love, Crystal Beach, Ontario. His family moved to Ottawa during his teen years where he developed and maintained many friendships. Later on Jon met Jennifer in Toronto and moved there where he has spent the last 25 years.

Jon had many careers and interests throughout his life. He was an accomplished drummer and sound engineer in the Ottawa music scene from the seventies to the early nineties. Jon was an excellent carpenter leaving behind many decks - fences and other projects he built in southern Ontario over the years. He also became a high-end audio consultant while at the same time being a seasonal groundskeeper at some of Toronto's best golf courses. He loved animals - music - golf - baseball - hockey - travelling - skating on the Ottawa Canal - classic films - Seinfeld and a good cup of coffee. Jon left us much too soon - he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

A private family service has been held at Turner & Porter.

Jennifer, Rachel, Lehel, and family - keeping all of you in our thoughts as you navigate this very difficult time. Jon was there for so many memories that our families made together while growing up, as well as those we shared in more recent years - everything from school events, weddings, special dinners, etc. to regular, ordinary days on Wimbleton Road. He (as well as his sense of humor, expressions, and entertaining comments ;) ) will be sincerely missed by all of us. Sending you all love from Halifax - looking forward to when we can be together to reminisce about Jon and convey our love and support in person. xoxo

I enjoyed spending time with Jon as our neighbor and friend to Sheila and Matt and Nancy and I.
Thanks for the opportunity to say a few words.

Jon was a steady presence and a man of love in action. Ready to help as a neighbour and then as a long lasting family friend. He holds a special place in my heart for his love for my daughters, especially Maple. They were kindred spirits, happy to sit together and watch cartoons. He let her have her heart's content of candy and cheddar bunnies, you could tell he loved bringing her joy. Our little family will miss him dearly.

My sincere condolences to Jon’s family. Jon was a wonderful friend for the short time we knew each other. He was a gentle soul. I will never forget him and will always be happy that our lives crossed paths back in the seventies. I have very fond memories of him. So sorry for your loss.

A wonderful gentleman.
A great companion to Jennifer.
A good friend to Jennifer’s deceased Mother.
And sadly a perfect mentor and pal to Rachel in her growing years.
Rest In Peace Jon until we all meet again.
