In Celebration of

John Unger

December 22, 1954 -  September 21, 2017

John Unger will be remembered as a beloved husband & father to his family and as a respected friend & colleague to many. He was a devoted husband of Linda, father to Brian & Emily, son of Eugene (predeceased) and Eva, brother of Steven (Margaret), in-law and uncle.

John enjoyed a successful career as a corporate tax lawyer at Torys LLP, where he was widely admired for his dedication, intelligence and humor. He sincerely loved the practice of law and valued the friendships he developed over nearly 40 years at the firm.

His first passion was always for his family and he treasured the time they spent together at home, sporting events, theatre and the family cottage. He had unparalleled enthusiasm for thoroughbred horse racing, where he was a successful breeder, owner and active member of the Jockey Club of Canada and the Horse Racing Appeal Panel. He had many other interests including sports, travel, music and community service including several years as team manager and on the executive of the Etobicoke Dolphins Girls Hockey League.

John and his family warmly thank everyone who expressed their concern and provided support during his battle with cancer, including the compassionate care provided by Dr. Warren Mason at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Dr. Joanne Meyer at St. Joseph's Health Centre.

Friends are welcome at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor St West) for visitation on Monday, September 25 (2-4pm, 7-9pm) and funeral service in the chapel on Tuesday, September 26 (11am).

Donations requested in lieu of flowers to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (Pencer Centre PFAC Fund).

Hello Linda

Sorry about your husband John. Unlucky at his age.
But he married a great lady.

All the best.

John was an integral part of the Etobicoke Dolphins Executive for many years. Together as a team, we always managed to diffuse all kinds of situations. He was always the voice of reason and for that I am truly thankful. John was a friend and he will be deeply missed by his Dolphin Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Linda, Brian and Emily.

Sincerely
Colleen Muise
