John Peter Latter

May 25, 1951 -  February 9, 2019

It is with great sadness the Latter family announces the passing of John on Saturday, February 9, 2019. Beloved son of Elizabeth and the late Arthur Latter. Loving brother of Jane, David (Sharon), Gail (Nick), and Robert (Ann). Much loved uncle of Marc, Alexander, David, Lisa, Michael, Scott, Sarah, Robert, and Thomas. John proudly played football for the Bishop’s University Gaiters and graduated in 1976.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas Street West, Mississauga, (east of Erin Mills Pkwy), on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 2 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 3 p.m.

It was with great sadness that we learned of John's recent passing. He was a very kind, warm and friendly person who only had nice things to say about everyone. His Rowsell side family will reflect warmly on many happy times we shared together, and we pray that he is now at peace.

It was with great sadness we were advised today by Jennifer that my football buddy (who I carried on the field for many years) had passed away this past Saturday. Although we had not been in touch for several years Jack was on my mind from time to time over the years. As a matter of fact, I reflected just this past weekend on how I now dry my hair and it was Jack who I copied the process from (some 48 years ago). Jack used to regularly get me into some kind of trouble at Bishops. It was never my fault believe me. It was however, usually fun, a little mischievous, memorable and usually not too destructive. I remember while living in Calgary, every time we heard the sang Short People by Randy Newman, Jack would drop to his knees and walk around wherever we were at the time. This allowed the 'short people" to be able to look him in the eyes. Something not many people were able to do. Big, slow and tough on the field. Jack was always fun to play football with. He always had your back. Somehow he scored a touchdown (at Bishops) during our playing days and I never did. He did remind me of that memorable lumber (he couldn't run worth a damn) down the field with regularity. Although we had not seen each other for many years I will forever remember Jack as "Good People". I could go on forever about my experiences with Jack but, will leave the above with the family to hopefully reminisce as I have been able to do tonight. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Latter family. Know I will be thinking of Big Jack tonight, tomorrow and in the future. I will miss the Jack I knew in my younger years. He was "Good People."

The loss of my great big friend will always leave a hole in my heart. Even though we were thousands of miles apart for the last 20 years, we always connected. Every conversation was as if we were still in high school, university, working on log jams(literally) or heading west for new adventures in Vince Volvo. The world will not be the same from losing this great-hearted man.
