In Celebration of

John Melvin Cross

January 22, 1944 -  August 12, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of John Melvin Cross, who passed away peacefully August 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

John’s life was defined by his devotion to family, his steady character, love for sports, a master merchant, his humour, his incredible generosity, and the warmth he brought to every life he touched.

He was the beloved husband of Cheryl, with whom he shared many happy years, and the proud father of their son Jamie, who was the apple of his eye.

John was also the first husband and lifelong best friend of Marilyn, and together they raised their children Debi, Brenda, and John, creating a foundation of love and family values that endured throughout his lifetime.
He was a loving grandfather to Stephanie, Johnny, Tara, Justin, Jay, Katrina, Cassandra, Brooklyn, and Cole, and a proud great-grandfather to Priscilla, Brody, Shyanne, Abigail, Ellijana, Joshua, Johnney, Hannah, Cassia, and Julian. John was also a cherished great-great-grandfather to Ethan, Miles, and Mataya. His family was his pride, his greatest joy, and he treasured every moment he spent with them.

He is survived by his siblings Nancy, Pat, and Eddie, whose cherished memories of him and their humble beginnings in Hastings, Ontario, will be a lasting comfort in their hearts. John had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friendships.

John’s greatest honour was his family and the abundance of love he brought to the lives of all he touched. He was a man of honour, tradition, and strong values—a selfless man who gave unconditionally to all, even in times when he had nothing to give.

Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating the life and legacy of the honourable John Melvin Cross, at a funeral service to be held on:

Viewing Time: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

May his soul rest in eternal peace with the good Lord, and may his love and wisdom continue to guide those he leaves behind. John knew Jesus Christ in his heart as his SAVIOUR.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away”

— Rev 21:4

Oh uncle John, I can't believe you're gone. You were my favorite uncle. Thank you for taking me under your wing at Bargain Harold's and teaching me so much about retail, taking me to set up new stores and bringing me to so many grand openings. Thank you for being such a loving, caring person. I was so lucky to spend so many years working with you. Thank you for letting me stay at your home when I didn't know where I was going to lay my head. You had the biggest heart. You will forever be in my heart ❤️
You are my sunshine 🌞

My deepest condolence to the family of my dear Uncle John, I am so very sorry for this great loss and the heartbreak you are all feeling. Take peace in your wonderful memories which will have you smiling and laughing even through your sadness and tears, as our family was so very blessed to have such a great man as a Partner, Father, Poppy, Brother, Uncle and so much more.

I will always have fond memories of my uncle John, who was such a generous and kind human being. I will never forget moving from the country to the big city, my mom struggling with a young daughter and two teenage boys, very little money and in search of a job. Uncle John helped us so much! I will never forget waking up on Christmas morning in absolute awe! I had never seen so many presents in my life, and I still remember counting them, I am sure it was 23 presents just for me!! And then he brought me a whole wardrobe from Bargain Harold's to choose from, clothes, winter coats and boots...and when I could not decide on what I wanted of course he told me to keep it all! and then of course as a teenager who got me my first job?? Uncle John of course! He had the whole family pretty much working at the old Bargain Harold's! This is just one of thousands of stories where he helped someone out in life, because that was the kind of man he was. Loving, selfless and kinder then anyone I knew, he loved and protected his family and I'm pretty sure the kids were his favorite and he was all ours too!!

Rest in Sweet Peace Uncle John, you will be so missed but your spirit and guidance will always be an ever lasting presence in the hearts of all who had the Honor and Privilege of knowing you!

With so much love, your nieces Darlene, Alicia, Kali, and of course your big sister Patty!
