In Celebration of

John Askew

November 11, 1926 -  March 17, 2023

It is with great love and affection we say goodbye to our loving Dad, John Askew. Dad passed away peacefully in his home, sitting in his favourite chair and on his own terms on March 17, 2023, in his 97th year.

Predeceased by his wife Evelyn (1982) and his wife Ruth (1999). He was the second eldest of nine children.
Loving father of Dale (Cec), Dianne (Neil), David (Linda), and Doug (Pat). Much loved grandfather of Mike, Jason, Drew, Erin, Lee, Sarah, Scott, Lauren, David John, Karen, Peter and 14 great grandchildren.

Survived by siblings, Francis (Bill dec.), Albert (Gloria), Bob (Marlene dec.) and Elizabeth (Doug). Predeceased by his parents, John and Jean Askew, his sisters, Irene Tonks, Margaret Sibbick, Dolly Nicholson, and brother Dennis Askew.

Dad was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for over 65 years. He was a partner in Wells Electric and if you went to a school in Etobicoke he most likely worked on it. An accomplished woodworker and jack of all trades, he came to the rescue of his children many times when they needed help in their homes. But he was an independent man and never was one to ask for help himself. He was determined to stay in his home and was even planning on renewing his driver’s licence! A selfless man, John loved to help his neighbours, for example snow blowing their driveways in winter. In his later years, he suffered from COPD, but was mentally sharp to the very end. Dad was the family patriarch and lived by his code of ethics to work hard and make your own way in life. He taught us many life lessons and we will miss him dearly.

Cremation has already taken place. A Service to Celebrate our Dad’s Life will be held at Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W) on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Visitation from 10-11 am with the service at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Hospital or The Canadian Cancer Society.

Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

Grandpa, you were always there for me and Will, and we miss you very much. You were the best human I have ever known; so kind and helpful, and never said a bad word about anyone. I am so blessed to have had you in my life and love you very much. I will always strive to be more like you in life and have loved having you as a role model. May you be at peace with your loved ones who passed before you.
Love Sarah & Will

Sincere condolences to the entire Askew family. John was always a pleasure to be around. I will miss the twinkle in his eye and the little chuckle as he cracked a joke. He will truly be missed.
