In Celebration of

John Arthur Markham

May 5, 1934 -  January 2, 2025

John Arthur Markham, known to all as Jack, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 5, 1934, Jack lived a full life and he leaves behind a rich legacy of love and kindness.

Jack was a devoted husband to his wife, Margaret, for over 55 years. Their bond was one of deep love and mutual respect. Together, they raised three children: Ralph, Chris (Raghad), and Jennifer. Jack’s heart expanded even further with the arrival of his grandchildren: Robbie, Isabella, Ryan, Olivia, and Naomi. His gentle presence and thoughtful guidance will be missed by his children and grandchildren.

He was the proud brother to his late sister Jane who lived in England.

He lived his life with service to the community, dignity, quick wit, and quiet strength.

Family and friends may visit at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel (4933 Dundas St. West, Etobicoke) on Friday, January 10th from 4-6 p.m.

The Funeral service will take place at St. George’s-on-the-Hill Anglican Church (4600 Dundas St. West, Etobicoke) on Saturday, January 11th at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can also be made to St. George’s Outreach Fund. https://stgeorgesonthehill.ca/giving/

My condolences to the Markham family. Uncle Jack taught me how to construct a periscope and safely dive into a pool. I've used those principles many times in my life for nefarious and real world problem solving. Thx Uncle Jack. Fair winds and blue skies.

I am so sorry for the news of Uncle Jack passing – he was one of the kindest people I have ever known. He had such a strong north star of right, wrong, what is proper, a great sense of humour (great chuckle) and all round caring – I loved the time we spent together all through my life and especially when Mum died I felt a calm and ‘coming home’ feeling whenever I saw Uncle Jack.

Jack was a true gentleman. We have enjoyed his company at St George’s Church and at the Probus Club. We are saddened by the news of his death, but feel grateful for his friendship.

Such a pleasure to have known Jack through Probus. His smile and wit always uplifted me. Condolences to his entire family.
