In Celebration of

Joanne Elizabeth Wallace (nee Hisey)

May 9, 1926 -  June 29, 2024

Joanne Elizabeth (nee Hisey) Wallace passed away June 29, 2024 at the age of 98. Beloved wife of 65 years of the late George Wallace. Joanne is survived by her two daughters Pamela (Gene) Parsons, Patricia (Ken) Lorimer; grandchildren Avery (Erika) Lewis Parsons and Rachel Parsons; her brother Sam (Joyce) Hisey; sister-in-law Evelyn Wallace and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Mary Anne (Collett) Hisey, her brother Bill and brother-in-law Bill Wallace.

Joanne was born and raised in Toronto and graduated from Etobicoke Collegiate. Joanne and George spent much of their married life in Etobicoke and for many years, enjoyed spending time every summer at the family cottage in Muskoka. In the early 1980’s, George and Joanne relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and upon George’s retirement moved further south to East Lake Woodlands, Florida, where they met many friends who became like a second family. Joanne kept active by playing bridge on a regular basis, continued to be an avid reader and enjoyed many social gatherings and meals out with the Gourmet Group. In 2015, Joanne returned to Canada to live her final years in Mississauga, close to her daughters, other family members and friends. She will be missed by all.

Our family would like to extend our deep appreciation to all the wonderful staff at Chartwell Residence, Robert Speck Parkway, where Joanne resided for the last nine years. Special thanks to Imelda and her team of caregivers who provided loving care to Joanne these last few weeks. Our family will be forever grateful for the support and kindness shown. Our sincere thanks, as well, to the Palliative Care Team, in particular, Nurse Practitioner Demetra and Nurse Sue and Care Partners PSW Chondro.

As per Joanne’s wishes, instead of a service, there will be a private family Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Joanne’s memory to either Canadian Blood Services - Category Plasma or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital - Love to the Rescue.

Gary and I were blessed to have know both George and Joanne for 30 years. We had such great times together including golf, dining out, and playing bridge. We were also neighbors for a few years and always smiled as we watched them on their daily walk in the neighborhood. Their Canadian humor was such a wonderful trait that we all loved. We’re better people because they were in our lives and we miss them both.

Joanne was a very special lady: “The best of the best”. We will forever remember her for her quick wit, dry humor, great wisdom and inspiration. Most of all we will remember and treasure our friendship of many years and the good times we shared.
RIP dear friend.

Joanne and George were one of our close friends when we lived in Oldsmar. She had a lovely sunny disposition and was such a special person in our group. We missed George and Joanne when they returned to Toronto but to use her words, “good bye for now”.
