It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joan Scali on Sunday, May 22nd, 2022, she was surrounded by her loving family at home in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of Giovanni for 61 years. Loving mother of Siena (John) Perrotta and Anthony (late Korrie) Scali. Cherished and loving Nonna of Stephanie, Orianna, Genevieve, Elizabeth, and Benjamin. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and family dog Toby.
Born in Dublin, Ireland she came to Canada with her family as a teenager. She went back to school to learn new skills to start a career to make a new life for herself. After meeting her husband, Giovanni, she embraced the Italian culture and traditions and even taught herself to speak Italian fluently as well as learning the art of Italian cuisine which she mastered beautifully and has passed down these traditions to her children and grandchildren.
Joan will be remembered for her kind-hearted, and generous self. She was not only a loving, caring and supportive mother she was the most special Nonna. She was also a special wife and supported her husband when they started their family business. She worked hard for many years helping to build the business and teaching herself the fundamentals and the mechanics behind the scenes to help the business grow and be successful for her family. While working hard she never let that stop her from keeping her family together for weekly family gatherings and holidays where she provided the most amazing meals for her family. Her support to all her loving grandchildren was immeasurable. She was the matriarch of our family. She was a courageous woman that fought hard with determination throughout her life when faced with challenges. When anyone else would have been broken Joan stayed strong and resilient. Her Catholic faith kept her strong and was sacred to her. Heaven has gained the most special angel. We are heartbroken.
The family would like to thank our cousin Arlene Lynch (Joan’s niece) for her kindness, compassion, and support over the past year. You always held a special place in her heart, and we are forever grateful to you.
“Grief never ends. But it changes. It’s a passage, not a place. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love.”
