In Celebration of

Joan Elizabeth Funnell (Newland)

July 20, 1930 -  March 30, 2025

Predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, George, her brother Harvey Naylor, and her very close cousin Gwen Baylis Thornton. Mother of Larry (Carmelina), Dave (Mae) and Doug (Karen). Grandmother of Christina (Matthew), Mark, Matthew and Joanne and great grandmother of Evelyn. Joan volunteered in the library at Humber Hospital for 40 years and was an active member of numerous Anglican churches. Joan and George enjoyed their time at the cottage on Lake Couchiching, but also loved to travel, exploring Canada from coast to coast including up to the Yukon, crossing the Atlantic by ship twice and venturing to numerous other vacation locations. She was an avid gardener, loved to bake, and hosted many wonderful Christmas night Birthday-Boxing Day open house celebrations for her brother Harv and sister-in-law Marie. Thank you to the staff at Sunrise of Erin Mills for their wonderful and gentle care over the past several months. Special thanks to Jesse and France who helped keep her moving.

Funeral service and reception will be held at St. Olave's Anglican Church, 360 Windermere Ave., on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. In memory of Joan, donations may be made to Humber River Health Foundation or St. Olave’s Anglican Church.

Joan was always a very kind, yet no-nonsense Lady. I remember her with much kindness, particularly from my teen years.

I hadn't seen my cousin Joan for a long time but I have very fond memories of her. She used to take me for walks in my pram when I was just a little girl.

So sorry to hear of Joan's death. May she Rest In Peace and rise in glory. She is now reunited with her loved ones and at home with her Saviour and Lord. God be with you, Karen & Doug, Joanne and Matthew, as you grieve this loss. You are in my prayers.
