Dr. Jerry Ellis, a beloved husband, father, dentist, passed away peacefully at Dorothy Ley Hospice, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on July 24, 1946, in Ulm, Germany, Jerry was the youngest of three siblings, Joanie and Roman, who preceded him in death. His early life was marked by tragedy when he lost both his parents at a very young age. However, fate had a kinder turn when Rose and John Ellis adopted him at the age of five, providing him with a loving home and a bright future. Jerry's academic journey began at Waterloo University, where his passion for helping others led him to pursue dentistry at the University of Toronto. He embarked on his professional career in the spring of 1972 in South Hampton, Ontario. It was there that he and his beloved wife, Terry, welcomed their first daughter, Tamra, born in Owen Sound in the fall of 1973. Just over a year later, their family grew with the birth of their second daughter, Andrea, in the winter of 1974. In 1975, Jerry moved his young family to Niagara Falls, where he continued his dental practice and built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Beyond his successful career in dentistry, Jerry had a keen eye for dealmaking, particularly in real estate, which accentuated his sharp mind and passion for business. Jerry's character was shaped by the values he held dear—hard work, the importance of play, and doing the right thing for his community. These principles were not just beliefs but were reflected in every aspect of his life, from his dedication to his dental practice to his commitment to making a positive impact on those around him. He believed that a life well-lived was one that balanced diligence with joy, and he instilled these values in his family and friends. Jerry and Terry's love story began with a beautiful summer wedding in 1970, marking the beginning of a partnership that would last for decades. Together, they enjoyed winter escapes to Florida and the Caribbean, where they found warmth and relaxation amid the hustle of life. Jerry's passion for dealmaking extended to these travels as well, as he often found ways to combine business with pleasure, creating a life that was as fulfilling as it was adventurous. Jerry was a man of many passions. He found great joy in spending time at the family cottage in Oro, Ontario, where he created countless memories with his family and friends. His friendships, many of which were formed during his university days, remained steadfast throughout his life, reflecting the loyalty and kindness for which he was known. Dr. Jerry Ellis leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to his family and community. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Terry Ellis, and his two cherished daughters, Tamra and Andrea and his 6 precious grandchildren, Evan, Brooke, Matthew, Alexa, Drew and Christian. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
