In Celebration of

Gordon Jeffrey "Jeff" Scott

July 6, 1938 -  January 30, 2024

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved “Jeff”, Gordon Jeffrey Scott on January 30, 2024, at the age of 85 in Meaford, Ontario. Jeff was born July 6, 1938, in Toronto, Ontario to Jane Cowan Scott (nee Jeffrey) and Gordon Ernest Scott.

Survived by sons Steven Scott (Leona), and Ian Scott (Patricia); grandchildren, Brittany, Eric, Jason, Liam, and Nicholas; his sister Susan Keith; and his life partner, Nancy Harlton. Also remembered fondly by Bonnie Jessen, Jeffrey’s 1st wife and mother of his sons, as well as Nancy’s son, Simon, and family.

Jeffrey was a proud alumni of Humberside Collegiate in Toronto. Until a few years ago, he met annually with his classmates and several of his teachers where they reminisced about the old days and, of course, their current health issues. After graduating from Western University, Jeff soon realized that he was an entrepreneur at heart. He worked in the steel industry and soon started Tristar Steel. His business thrived and took him around the world, tirelessly working with his many clients in Europe and throughout North America. He formed lifelong friendships with people he met through his business. He always loved to give his opinion or share his experience with the next generation.

Jeff enjoyed so many activities. He was a fitness enthusiast, an avid skier in winter, primarily at Beaver Valley Ski Club and Toronto Ski Club. He made annual trips to Steamboat, Colorado with three fellow skiers until well into his 70s, mostly to ski but he also loved the camaraderie, the blue skies and the apres-ski fun. In the summer, Jeff was the proud captain of his boat, “Foreplay”, exploring the wonders of Georgian Bay, enjoying old and new friendships of other boaters. He was a loyal Blue Jays fan and always ready to debate the strategies of the game. He was a great chef and loved hosting family and friends for food, wine, stories and laughter. Jeff liked all genres of music and was an avid reader. He never missed the chance to share one of his puns or jokes.
Post retirement, Jeff, Nancy and their dog, Murphy, enjoyed many happy years living on their hobby farm outside Meaford, ON. To avoid the cold Ontario winters, Jeff and Nancy spent happy months with friends at their condo in Bucerias, MX.

Jeff loved life. He will be remembered as a man of his word, generous with his time, always willing to offer a helping hand to those with proven loyalty and the life of many parties. Recollections of Summer Round weekends were the mainstay of many dinner parties in Jeff’s later years.

The family would like to thank the nurses at the Meaford Hospital who cared for Jeffrey with compassion, good humour and understanding during the last month. The staff always provided thoughtful support to family.

Join us for Jeff’s Celebration of Life from 2 - 5pm on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Turner & Porter Funeral Home, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga L5B 1M8.

The family has requested that donations in his memory be sent to the Alzheimer Society.

Jeff and I met when I joined BEAVER VALLEY SKI CLUB.

My Father died in Mount Forest On. in mid January 1996. Jeff did not know my Father at all. When I took the pulpit at the Mount Forest United. Church, when I spoke to the audience about my father, I was absolutely surprised, and totally humbled, when I looked out at the audience, and I saw Jeff sitting on the west side of the main floor of the church, surrounded by other Beaver Valley Members , who joined the initiative of Jeff to accompany him to the funeral service. As the funeral service was over 125 KM from Toronto where most Members lived. - I WAS BLOWN AWAY !

Jeff permanently left me with his moment of proving that his friendship with me meant everything to him.

I have made it my mission, where possible, to try to attend funerals of close family members of friends.

I have one close friend whose father died in Montreal. My friend could not initially understand why I was there when he saw me outside of the Church after the funeral service.

Had Jeff not been at my FATHER’s funeral I would not have gone to Montreal. Every time I infrequently meet my old friend, he always brings up my Montreal story. He has told me numerous times of often attending funerals of family members of his friends.

Jeff , you influenced my life in a very big way. I have only you to thank. You are missed !

Mary Anne and I do miss you.

With fond memories of family get togethers. But mostly wonderful experiences camping with my Dad, Mum, sisters, Jeff, Susan, Don, Bonnie, Steven and Ian. Will never forget the gut wrenching laughter after Jesus was referred to as “The Big Cheese” of the cheeses while touring a Cathedral in Quebec..family is the glue that keeps us all together. With Love and Big Hugs, Jenny
