It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Jean, on May 14th, 2021, at the age of 86 after a brief illness that she faced with courage and dignity.

Jean was born in London England, on July 25th, 1934 to Victor and Nina Wright. After growing up in London experiencing the tumultuous Second World War, Jean trained as a nurse before deciding to immigrate to Canada in 1955. It was here where she met the love of her life the late, Richard FC Mortensen (predeceased Nov 19, 1985). Together they lived in Mississauga and were deeply involved in the community and raising their five children. Always present with her husband in his work with the City, she was deeply proud with the naming of the “Richard F. C. Mortensen Park” on Burnhamthorpe Rd, where they built their family home nearby.

Jean was a loving mother of five children, Richard (Renate), Susan (Robert), Bruce (Marlene), Sandra (Chet), and John. A Proud and cherished Grandmother of 11, Jennifer, Richard, Brett, Katherine, Lindsay, Ryan, Robert, Christine, Jesse, Jonathan, and Cassidy. And devoted Great-Grandmother of 7, Taylor, Jack, William, Benjamin, Miles, Addison, and Henry.

Jean will be remembered by her family in England, Sisters Nina and Irene, and Brothers Victor and the late Peter.

Throughout her life well lived, Jean was an active member of her community and a dear friend to many. She was a graceful woman of deep faith and was devoted to the Church and all those around her. She very much enjoyed being busy, and was active in managing and participating in her Christian’s Women Group gatherings and luncheons, and enjoyed always learning and teaching in her Bible Study groups.

Jean was always thinking of others, from providing Christmas dinners through the church to seniors or providing rides to appointments and baby supplies for expectant single mothers.

In earlier years, as a dedicated volunteer looking to provide awareness and support of palliative care in Mississauga, she was one of the founding volunteers of The Hospice of Peel. Jean received commemorative recognition at that time from the Region of Peel that honoured her time and years of selfless commitment she had given to the needs of others in the community.

Many fond memories and family traditions were nurtured through the amazing Danish Christmas tables she prepared and set for family and friends over the years, which continue to be enjoyed and passed down to her children and grandchildren to carry on.

Mom, Jean, Grandma, Great Grandma, we will miss you, and you will always be in our thoughts and hearts. We love you.
