In Celebration of

Jean M. Waite (nee Rankin)

February 10, 1930 -  April 21, 2020

Passed peacefully at Scarlett Heights Retirement Residence on Tuesday, April 21st, 2020, age 90. Beloved wife of Douglas for 65 years. Loving mother of Douglas (Leslie) and Clayton (Margaret). Much loved grandmother of Elizabeth (Christopher), Debby, Catherine and Jackson. Adored aunt and great aunt to her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Born in Verdun, Quebec on February 10th, 1930, Jean was one of six children, predeceased by her brother Alec and sisters Beryl, Lillian, Audrey and Marjory.

Jean met the love of her life, Doug Waite, while working at the Montreal Trust Company on St. James Street in Old Montreal in the early 50’s. They were married in 1954 and together they enjoyed subsequent company transfers to Saint John, Calgary and Toronto and raising their two boys. In later years, they wintered in Daytona Beach and enjoyed annual summer breaks to Ocean Park, Maine. Jean loved the beach.

An avid golfer (Lambton), bridge player and knitter, Jean enriched the lives of everyone she touched with her bright smile, sense of humour and good nature. Always thoughtful, gracious and considerate, a true lady in every sense of the word. She will be sadly missed by all.

Special thanks to the staff at Scarlett Heights, CBI and LHIN for their kindness and compassionate care.

A private family service and celebration of Jean’s life to be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.turnerporter.ca.

Auntie Jean was like a second mom to me. When we were children my brother and I always looked forward to seeing the Waite’s. We especially cherished the times when we would spend a week or so at their home in Etobicoke. I’ll never forget the year that someone in the Waite family thought it would be a good idea to have the male cousins come visit for a week. I’m sure it felt like a month to her. Later when I got my first job the Waite’s put me up in their spare bedroom for a couple of months. It is at that time that Clayton and Doug threw a party ( mom and dad were away). They gathered all the empty bottles and hid them in my bedroom. When Auntie Jean returned she asked the boys how I was doing. Sadly they informed her that I had a drinking problem and showed her the empty bottles. As she contemplated how she would deal with this she reached out to one of the other Rankin sisters. It was at this time that the boys told her of their prank. Thankfully I did not have to enrol in AA. Auntie Jean was someone who took pride in everything she did, but most of all she took pride in her family, and I feel blessed to have had her in my life. Rest In Peace my beautiful Auntie Jean.
