In Celebration of

James William Brown

April 30, 1929 - January 22, 2023

We regret to announce the passing of James (Jim) William Brown in Toronto ON on January 22, at the age of 93. He lived a long life, dedicated to family and the agricultural industry. Cherished husband of Eunice (deceased) and father to Cheryl, Bob, Randy, and Doug. Grandfather to Daniel, Eric, Tara, Tori, and Ryan. Father-in-law to Laurie, Kelly, and Laura. Brother to Peg Wonfor (deceased) and brother-in-law to Herb Wonfor (deceased).

Jim grew up on the family farm in Tiverton, ON, and then pursued higher education, graduating in 1953 from Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph, ON. He had a successful 40-year career in farm chemicals, retiring as the Managing Director of the Canadian Fertilizer Institute.

He met his wife, Eunice, while she had a summer job at Inverhuron, near his hometown of Tiverton. After they married, they moved to London, ON, then spent their younger married life in Montreal where they raised four children. They spent most of their latter married life in Ottawa.

Jim took great joy in his extended family, especially the educational and career success of his grandchildren. His next great joy was dogs, any dog. No dog was a bad dog. He was also proud of keeping up with current events, particularly business and sports - and the weather. He had a soft spot for people from small towns who “made it big” in business or sports. And he liked to tell people about these things which were important to him.

Thanks to the staff and residents and Credit River Retirement Residence for their care and friendship over the past six years.

Cremation has taken place at his request. A Celebration of Life is planned for Summer 2023, in Tiverton, ON, where he will be buried alongside Eunice, Peg, and Herb, the last of a generation.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the University of Guelph, Department of Plant Agriculture, or the SPCA.
