James Richard Sim

May 11, 1932 -  March 4, 2023


Peacefully, at Cawthra Gardens Long Term Care, on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the age of 90.

Beloved husband of Sidney for 67 years. Loving father of Julie McGrath and Laurie Romanica (Michael Uyeno).

Poppa will be missed by his grandchildren Jamie, Shawn (Ashna), Ryan (Emely), and Michael. Poppa was proud great-grandfather of Isabella, Kaleb, and Mackenzie.

James was an active and distinguished member of the Masons. He entered the Masons in 1974, and was Worshipful Master of Sunnylea Lodge #664, in 1982. He became District Deputy Grand Master of Toronto District 2 from 1985 to 1986. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite. Along with the Sunnylea Lodge, James also had membership in The Heritage Lodge #730, The Millennium Lodge, and Seven Star Lodge #285, in Alliston. James was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and was involved when he resided in Wasaga Beach. He was also a member with the Prime Time Club in Wasaga Beach.

James was actively involved in fundraising for The Alzheimer’s Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, and frequently participated in the Poppy Day fundraising. He will be sadly missed.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W) on Thursday, March 9, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 3 p.m.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, Diabetes Canada or the Masonic Foundation.

Jim held the position of Vice-President, Treasurer and Purchasing and was very precise in these talks. We send our condolences to Sidney Laurie and Julie.

Jim and I were former work colleagues during the late 1950's until the early 1970's for a 14 yr. period approximately.
Although originally working in separate departments, Jim was a respected employee by all and good social company too! With a mutual interest in sports, music and entertainment. Memories from so long ago while our subsequent careers seem to have taken us on completely different daily journeys.
Surprising that we didn't somehow cross social paths naturally after the '70's, it appears there was further mutual interests:
Was also a R.C. Legion member as Exec. for almost 30 yrs.
Late wife Donna and I frequented Wasaga for approx. 50 yrs.
Our extended family had strong ties with the Masons in both UK and Canada.
Enjoyed some earlier times in Jim's company but looks like several more were likely missed.

Sincere condolences to Jim's family, on his sad passing.
