In Celebration of

James Murphy

October 29, 1931 -  August 18, 2025

With heavy hearts, we share that James William Murphy, aged 93, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025.

Born in Newfoundland in 1931, James lived a full and remarkable life. He proudly served his country with distinction in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he built a long and dedicated career reaching the rank of Major.

Outside of his career, James was a man who truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, spending time in nature and was an excellent golfer. He was also a gifted guitar player whose music brought happiness to many.

After retirement he and Doris enjoyed many wonderful years in Florida. He cherished the sunshine and the many friendships he made there.

James was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce (1988) and his second wife Doris (2024). He will be deeply missed by his son Chris, his daughter in-law Cathy, his son Shane, his step daughter Debra, his grand-daughter Cherri, his 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A life well-lived, James will be remembered with love for his service, his music and his laughter. His family and friends will hold dear the many memories of his humour and spirit. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.

For those who wish, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society - Prostate Cancer, would be appreciated by the family.

Dear Shane, Chris, Debra & families
I have fond memories of Uncle Bill when he & Doris visited NL when our daughters were very young. My husband, Ron, had built stilts for Kate & Meghan...so Uncle Bill had a stilt race with Ron. It was quite the sight! Uncle Bill would've been in his seventies at the time & he gave Ron a good race. Afterwards, he charmed our girls with his guitar and songs. May the angels carry your dear Dad home.

Holding you all close to our hearts during this sad and difficult time. May Uncle Bill rest in peace.
In sincere sympathy, Glendora, Ron, Kate & Meghan Boland

So saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. We spent many hours enjoying Jim play guitar in Florida. He played with my brother, Errol Sharpe, for many years. Errol played accordion. Jim was very talented. May he rest in peace. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I have so many memories of Uncle Bill. He, Blanche and Mom always stayed in touch and visited each other as often as time, distance and family permitted. Over the past 15 years we became quite close… Neil and I visited Uncle Bill and Doris every year in Florida until they sold. We continued our visits for the past few years on our way to and from Florida. Always welcome, always a hug and laughter, guitar and songs, food, drink, stories. There is a void in our lives now…we love you and will miss our times together. I know you are up there with Mom and Dad, Joyce, Doris, Blanche and the rest of your family who have passed…hopefully sitting around together, having a beer and singing a few songs. Our sincere condolences to Shane, Chris and Deb. Love to all, Neil and Jo
