In Celebration of

James "Jim" Horton

June 29, 1948 -  February 6, 2025

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, James Edward Horton passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76. He was predeceased by his father, Reginald Maxwell Horton, and his mother, Margaret Adelia Horton (née Lukeman) and sister Ann Shirley Ferguson (née Horton).

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra, his daughter Lindsay, son, Kevin and his wife, Gillian, and his beloved grandchildren: Jacob, Carter, Emma, and Logan. He is also survived by his brother, Earl Horton, and his wife, Marlene. Additionally, Jim held a special place in his heart for Julia Strojnik and Fabien Berdah, whom he considered his honourary children.

Jim was a man of integrity and honesty; he possessed a sentimental heart and loved deeply. A natural storyteller, he cherished engaging in heartfelt conversations, often sharing tales infused with his dry, witty humour.

Above all, Jim was a loving father and devoted husband who adored his wife, Sandra. Their marriage was a testament to love, respect, and unwavering companionship. Through more than five decades together, Jim was not only a loving partner but also a role model for what a strong, committed husband should be.

Jim’s passions were many, but he had a special love for baseball and listening to music. He dedicated countless hours to the Martingrove Baseball League, nurturing young talent and fostering a community spirit. Music resonated deeply with him, touching his spirit and providing a soundtrack to his life’s journey.

Nature was one of Jim’s sanctuaries. He enjoyed fishing, exploring the outdoors, and taking long walks with his beloved wife, Sandra. The cottage was a cherished retreat, where he created lasting memories with his loved ones.

Recently, Jim returned to his native Nova Scotia, where he relished the coastal beauty, the ocean’s embrace, and reconnecting with family. During this visit, he took great pride in revisiting his alma mater, St. Francis Xavier University, and reflected on his cherished memories as a proud alumnus.

Jim was a steadfast pillar for his family and friends, always present with unwavering support and love. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. For those that wish to send flowers, please have them either sent to the funeral home on February 19th or sent directly to the church on February 20th.

I was saddened to hear of Jim's passing. He was everything you say he was. He was also a stand up guy who believed in common sense and integrity. He will be missed. Take care of one another. Lean on each other & when the going gets tough remember the good memories. He would want nothing less for his family & close friends. God Bless, Dawnyca Cristello

Jim was an exceptional coach and role model to me as a young boy. As Kevin's longtime teammate, I was always welcomed in the Horton household; I have great memories from my time with the Horton family. My thoughts and prayers to the whole family.

Oh Sandra, there are no words that could possibly ease the pain and sadness you are going through. Uncle Jim never wavered in the amazing human He had been since the day I met him when I was a child to when I got to reunite with him this past summer. It was like no time passed, And it was so wonderful to get to spend the time with you all. Those are very treasured memories that I will hold dear to my heart. I’m sorry I can’t be there in person but know I am there in spirit and sending you all my love. Such a beautiful commemoration written for him above. Love Maureen & Family XO
