In Celebration of

James Howard Hayward

February 12, 1943 -  August 15, 2025

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of James Howard Hayward, who died on the evening of Friday, August 15th with his beloved wife of 58 years by his side, after an over twenty year battle with cancer.

Jim was the darling husband of Maria, father of Bob (Jenny), Michael (Dhaily), John (Pam), Ann Marie (Myron), and Elizabeth (Jonathan), and grandfather of nine wonderful grandchildren, Iris, Chloe, Camilla, Vanessa, Nicholas, Jeremy, Emily, Emma, and Isabella - all of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by his dear sisters, Faye and Lois.

Aside from his very full family life, Jim had many interests. At an early age he became interested in chemistry and electronics, and went on to study electronics at the postsecondary level. After he graduated, he employed his skills at Bell Canada where he worked for almost 30 years. When he retired from Bell Canada, he kept himself busy by teaching electronics at the Radio College of Canada, working on his short-wave radio tower, and serving as a committee member and advisor for the Toronto chapter of the Audio Engineering Society. Jim also had a deep love of music, and serenaded his family, friends, and strangers on piano any chance that he could. He blended his passion for music and knowledge of electronics to influence within the field of audio engineering, and cherished the many friendships that he made within that community.

Family and friends are encouraged to attend a visitation at Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas Street West, Mississauga, on Tuesday, August 26th between 5 - 8pm, or to the funeral service at St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church 300, River Oaks Blvd E, Oakville, on Wednesday, August 27th at 11am, followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Burial will take place at St Volodymyr's Cemetery, 1280 Dundas St W, Oakville at 1pm the following day.

Donations can be made in Jim’s honor to Doctors Without Borders or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Jim has been a colleague and friend for at least 30 years. We met through the Audio Engineering Society, but soon found that we had a lot of life experiences that resonated between us. My late wife Judy and I enjoyed a relationship with Jim and Maria over many years. I will miss him and his humour, knowledge and kindness.

So sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. The Longs will be in Vancouver at this time attending a Celebration of Life for Greg’s wife Catherine, so we will not be able to attend the funeral.
