In Celebration of

James Hawthorn McCreadie McNair

March 27, 1937 -  November 19, 2021

Born March 27, 1937, in Glasgow, Scotland; immigrated to Canada August 7, 1947 and passed away peacefully November 19, 2021, at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton.

Beloved husband of Norma (née Duncan); adored father of Susan (Matthew Popowich) and grandfather of Henry James. Predeceased by his dear brother Lachlan (June 4, 2020). Cherished cousin of Joyce (Noel) Churchman and the late Jean (F. James) Dart, and their children and grandchildren. Dear uncle to those in Clan Duncan and always loving “Unkie” to Elizabeth and Judy.

He is remembered with respect and fondness for his meticulous attention to detail (and penchant for delivering witty remarks at dinners) by those who knew him through his career as a lawyer with Borden & Elliot, now Borden Ladner Gervais. His friends and family will greatly miss the wisdom and integrity of his counsel and his quiet, kind demeanour — punctuated by the occasional zinger.

The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church, 15 Lambeth Road, Etobicoke, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 in the afternoon. Interment at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Toronto, will follow the service.

Dear Norma
I was saddened to read Jim's obituary in the Globe this morning.
I am in Florida and cannot attend the funeral or visitation but did want to say what a lovely and kind man Jim was , and a wonderful partner.
He was a first- class lawyer!
His contributions to the firm were huge but he was so modest that , I am sure, his talents and efforts were not appreciated as much as they should have been.
I remember how he often attended( with you) our B&E Belters softball games to cheer for us and he always had a kind word for my husband David ( Britnell) and me.
He was so proud of Susan as well and always reported her progress and achievements when we spoke.
Did he ever get over his tinitis? ( I think of him every time I hear of someone who has it!
He will be missed but remembered fondly by everyone who knew him.
Best,
Mary Margaret (Fox)
