In Celebration of

James (Jim) Fredrick Spalding

April 1, 1930 -  December 16, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Fredrick Spalding in his 94th year peacefully at home after a short illness. Son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Spalding, predeceased by his sister Margaret (Bill) and brothers Chic (Isobel), George (Betty). Jim leaves behind his loving wife Ann, married over 72 years, together for almost 75 years. Loving father of Margaret (Dale) and Ian (Victoria). Jim was the best grandfather to Emily (TJ), James, Julia, and Adelaide (Hayden).

Jim was born in Arbroath, Scotland in 1930 and emigrated to Canada with Ann in 1954, becoming long time residents of Cooksville. Jim was a machinist by trade, honing his skills at Douglas Fraser & Sons in Arbroath. In Canada, Jim completed his BA from the University of Toronto, followed by graduating from the Ontario College of Education. He was a dedicated teacher and technical director at Streetsville Secondary School for 30 years.

Jim and Ann in their later years, were active members in Scottish Country Dancing, developing wonderful friendships but his greatest achievement was his family. Remembered for a quick smile, a laugh, and a hug, Jim was always happiest with his immediate family close, particularly if it was at the cottage on Whitestone Lake.
He will be greatly missed by all his family here as well as his nieces and nephews in Scotland and all those that knew him.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation www.thepmcf.ca or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation www.jdrf.ca

Jim and his wife Ann dancing at my mum and Ian’s wedding is one of my favourite memories of him. He and Ann’s marriage is one to be admired and was filled with pure happiness and admiration. I wish nothing more for Jim than peace at this time.

Jim welcomed me into the family with open arms. He was a warm-hearted, quick witted, affable man who was generous with his affection and time. Jim was absolutely devoted to his family whom he was immensely proud of. He will always be fondly remembered.

Lots of happy memories of Scottish country dancing with Ann and Jim over many years. He was a lovely man, and I agree that their marriage was one to be admired. He will be greatly missed by all his SCD friends and my thoughts and condolences are with Ann and the whole family at this sad and difficult time.
