Irene Wallace passed away surrounded by friends and family on Friday, October 11th 2024 at Copernicus Lodge at age of 95.
Beloved wife of the late Mitchell Wallace. Loving mother of Mitchell (Lianne McKay), Victoria (Peter Griffin), Christine (Daniel Gilmartin) and Robert (Tracy Seki). Proud grandmother of Michelle and Daniel. Predeceased by her siblings, Witold, Zenon, Mary, Martha and Andy. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Irene was a lover of life and an accomplished portrait and landscape artist. Everyday was beautiful for her. Irene was born in Poland in 1929, and as a result of the onset of WWll, her life became a journey that took her across nearly every continent, enriching her with diverse experiences that shaped her into the person she became.
Irene believed that as long as seniors maintained their health and mental clarity, they could remain productive and active members of society. In 2010, with this attitude in hand, she wrote her autobiography titled “Through the Eyes of one child and the memories of many orphans.
Irene was her husband Mitchell’s equal partner in life and work, owning and operating, Decorisma, a custom built upholstery business in Toronto for approx. 50 years. At the age of 74, they both retired to Peterborough Ontario. In retirement, Irene had a wonderful life, seeing family, painting, writing and participating in the community arts, music and theatre events.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff at Copernicus Lodge for their kindness dedication and exemplary care.
