In Celebration of

Irene Monie

August 17, 1937 -  July 3, 2020

Peacefully at home on July 3, 2020 with her daughter Michelle by her side. Wife of the late David, sister of Violet, mother in law of Michael Clark, beloved Bapci to Aidan and Emma Clark and honorary grandma of every kid in the neighborhood. A fiercely independent woman who was a straight shooter with a heart of gold and a sweet tooth that knew no boundaries. A long-time fosterer of animals from the Toronto Animal Shelter, she saved and changed the lives of so many cats and kittens. Irene enjoyed tending to her immaculate garden, spoiling her grandchildren, the company of her many good friends and family, and was a devout observer of wine o’clock. Tough as nails, generous to a fault she will be deeply missed by those that knew her. Feet first Irene. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in Irene's name to Toronto Animal Services.

I got to know Irene after our daughter Caroline Sturk and her young family moved in next door over three years ago. We enjoyed regular over-the-fence chats whenever she was out in the backyard tending her beautiful garden and many memorable casual get-togethers over a glass (or two) of good wine. Irene grew close to Caroline’s family and was particularly fond of little Jonah and Margot. We all enjoyed Christmas dinner together the last two years. Irene was more than a neighbour, she was a part of the family and we will all miss her a great deal. I really enjoyed her wit, humour and considerable determination. Rest In Peace Irene, it was a pleasure knowing you and I raise a glass of fine red wine in your honour. Michelle and family, our thoughts and sympathies are with you.

Thank you for our friendship. You where there for me when my mother died and I need you so much. We became so close over the years. Talking about everything. Always astonished me that we could never just talk to say hello. We always would talk for at least an hour. I will miss you and our talks so much. I am greatful that you are no pain free. RIP my beautiful lady.

Dear Michelle, Michael, Emma and Hayden, sorry for your loss. Irene was a lovely lady. We enjoyed spending time with her at the cottage and other social gatherings. She will be greatly missed. May she be at peace with Dave in a lovely garden.

My sincere sympathies Michelle, Mike, Aiden and Emma. Irene always made smile or laugh, a warm person. May your memories of her bring you peace and comfort at this time. Hugs to all of you.

I was so, so sorry to hear of Irene's death. We had been been neighbours and friends for nearly thirty years and she and Dave meant a lot to me. Irene was always ready for a chat, especially about gardening. I will really miss her and I still can't believe that she has gone.
All my very best to Michelle and her family at this very sad time.
