In Celebration of

Irene Maxmonko

March 6, 1926 -  February 3, 2020

Irene passed away peacefully at Kingsway Revera Retirement Residence, with her son, Eric, at her bedside. She was 93.

Irene was a loving wife of over 57 years to Larry, who passed away in 2006. She was a fantastic mother to Eric and to Peter, who passed away in 1982.

She earned her BA from the University of Toronto in 1948, then graduated from the Ontario College of Education in 1949. She taught English at Forest Hill Collegiate from 1950 to 1960 before retiring to embrace the joys of motherhood.

She was an accomplished singer who played leading roles in numerous musicals, and was a talented painter. She loved her family, friends, and animals, especially her pets.

Irene was always young at heart; the life of the party who shone light into the lives of all she touched.

We will miss her dearly.

For those who wish, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

My dear friend Irene, Soul Sister as she called me, has been a true inspiration in my life with her wisdom, sense of humour, energy, and cheerful disposition. She was a caring, loving, feeling Lady with many talents and accomplishments. We had many memorable times together..
She has been so well cared for by Eric, who is so dedicated to her and did all the best for her, especially in her later years.
I will always have a special place in my heart for Irene. Rest in Peace, “Daahling”!

Lida Watson - Kalyniuk (My parents were friends with Irene and Larry's parents)

Growing up as a child Irene was someone who I adored. We had an affinity for each other. My father taught her at Ukrainian school (Sam Kalyniuk). I used to visit Larry's mother when she still lived in her house on Rusholme Road. Irene was a beautiful, kind, loving, young at heart woman. She had a zest for life which permeated throughout her being. You could feel her loving aura around you. Even though we lost touch over the years I will always remember her with great fondness and never forget her impact on me when I was a child.
