In Celebration of

Irene Barbara Dymon

November 9, 1937 -  January 14, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Barbara Dymon, beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, on January 14, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born to Mary and Daniel Uzinski in Val d’Or Quebec, and predeceased by her parents and sister, Anne Jerome, Irene’s life was one of extraordinary strength, love and devotion.

Growing up in Toronto on Bathurst Street, Irene attended Harbord Collegiate where she excelled academically. As a proud graduate of the University of Toronto’s Pharmacy program in 1959, Irene was one of the trailblazing women of her generation who pursued higher education and a professional career. She was one of only a handful of women in her graduating class.

Although her academic success was rooted in science, Irene also loved reading and the arts. She had a deep love of literature, ballet and theatre, embodying the importance she placed on being a well-rounded person, which was something that was deeply instilled in her children.

For 63 cherished years, Irene shared her life with her beloved husband, Dr. William Dymon, building a life, family and a legacy defined by unwavering love and unity. She was the devoted mother of William (Sherri), Diane, and Richard (Dawn). Irene found immense joy in her role as Baba to Jessica, Andrew, Evan, Owen, Kathryn, Viviana, Lillien, Adelyn and Maeve. Her deep love for her nine grandchildren was a constant source of light and joy in her life.

Irene was the heart and soul of her family and her commitment to family was unwavering. Her home was a haven for love, laughter, and togetherness, where she preserved and shared the rich traditions of her Ukrainian heritage. From bustling family holiday gatherings and meals, lovingly prepared, to spontaneous surprise dinner guests at summer BBQs with her children and their friends, Irene’s cooking and hospitality (and bountiful fridge!) knew no bounds, and brought everyone together with joy and laughter around the table.

A woman of remarkable resilience and strength, Irene was the steady centre of her family and a source of wisdom, insight, guidance, and unwavering support. She was always there for those in need, providing wise counsel and sage advice. Her influence as a matriarch was rooted in her ability to balance love and sacrifice, providing the strong foundation upon which her family flourished.

Irene's influence extended far beyond her immediate family. Always welcoming and generous to everyone who came into her home, her sense of humour, quick wit, and piercing insights made lasting impressions on her many life-long friends and all who came to know her. She was always extremely knowledgeable about current events and politics, and was a delight to converse with on any topic of the day.

Irene’s legacy is one of love, humility -and family unity. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the power of devotion and the enduring bonds of family.

A private family service has taken place, and a celebration of Irene’s life will occur at a later date.

Please visit the online memorial to sign the guestbook and leave a personal message. If you'd like, you can also make a donation in Irene's memory to a charity of your choice listed on the Donations page. Thank you.
