In Celebration of

Ioannis (John) Bogles

December 9, 1935 -  December 17, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ioannis (John) Bogles on December 17th, 2024, at Credit Valley Hospital. John was surrounded by his family as he left us peacefully.
John was born in Florina (Trigono), Greece and emigrated from Czechoslovakia to Canada in 1957 to join his parents after a long separation from them due to the Greek Civil War. In 1958 he married his wife of 66 years, Demetra. Together they created a family of four children; daughters Christine (Joe), Jenet, Stefanie (Bill), and son Peter; four grandchildren Michael (Anita), Natalie (Daniel) Christopher, and Alexandra, as well as five great grandchildren Luke, Lily, Elizabeth, Emily and Daniela.
He was deeply loved by his uncle Alex, cousins Lisa, Dimo, Nick, and Eva, nieces Bonnie, Angie (Drew), Jeannie (Richard), Penny (George) and their families.

He is predeceased by his beloved parents Peter and Stefana, sister Lefa and brother Micheal, as well as his beloved uncle Ilias and aunt Sotira, uncle Zissis, aunt Aurelie, aunt Flora, brother and sister-in-law Katerina and John.
John was an restaurateur, in Cooksville, Mississauga, for over 40 years and was well known in the community. While his passions included travelling, fishing, fine food, and animals, his heart and soul was rooted in learning and education. John was truly brilliant; a Renaissance man whose knowledge of the arts and sciences astonished us. It was not until we learned from his dear friend, Thanasis Economou, who contributed to NASA’s lunar success in the 1960’s, Apollo program (1969-1973) and Mars Pathfinder Rover project, and was tutored by our Dad in Czechoslovakia, that we began to understand his brilliance better. He told us that without our Dad’s personal tutoring he would never have advanced in his early academics. Unfortunately, Dad’s own dreams of becoming a physician were quashed by war. It was due to this loss of education that made him determined to make his family value higher learning . His proudest moments were his children's and grandchildren’s academic and personal accomplishments.
John was indefatigable in all things; working night and day at the restaurant for over 40 years, literally hand-building the family home, and embracing all the advances in technology, yet his greatest battle was with the multitude of health issues that challenged him non-stop. He kept defying the odds to everyone’s amazement.
He had tremendous support and care from his family, especially from his son Peter who was devoted to John’s health and wellness for decades.
The family would like to thank Dr. Pauline Fenty and Dr, Vladimir Sluzar for their many years of care. We are also grateful to Dr. David Satok.
Immense gratitude is also extended to John’s PSWs, Manpreet, Marjorie, Rachel, and Rajdeep who took care of Dad like he was their own family. This care supported John’s family so much as well.
Our family would also like to thank extended family members, friends, wonderful neighbours for their support, and Trillium Health Partners for their exceptional care of John.

Dad , I still feel numb and cannot process that you are gone. It does bring me peace that your suffering is over. It was my honour to care for you as your illness progressed....somehow your vunerability and dependence on me made me feel closer to you. Thank you for loving my family as you did. You treated Bill like your own son and he felt your love, especially since losing his own father at such a young age. I see so much of you in Christopher....his love of travel, fine food and especially his unrelenting search for knowledge. It warmed my heart listening to the two of you engage in your academic discussions. One of many cherished memories. Until we meet again. Love Stefanie xo
