Indera Johanis

May 30, 2024
Weeks away from her 76th birthday, Indera (Indie) went to meet her Lord and Saviour. With strength, courage, boldness, love, and determination, she fought cancer hard to the end.
Indie was the loving wife of Lucien (Lou) and cherished sister of Una and 14 other siblings. She was a beloved aunt to many and a selfless mother to David, the late Lisa, Daniel (Mackenzie), Michael (Ashlee), Sean (Ursula), and Mark (Nicole). She was a doting grandmother to Madden, Isla, Ellis, Kenan, Josie, Evalea, and baby boy ‘Bobo’ Johanis.
Born in Trinidad to her late parents, Rooplal and Irene, Indie moved to Canada in search of better opportunities. She attended culinary college and became the head chef at various well-known restaurants.
After the birth of her youngest child, Indie transitioned to full-time childcare. She continued to nurture and pour love into children in the Mimico community until the very end. She loved gardening, the outdoors, traveling with her family, and being a caregiver for many children in the Mimico community.
Indie was always sacrificially giving, following the example she learned from her Father in heaven. She freely gave to strangers, friends, family, and charities without a second thought.
Indie made an indelible mark on so many people’s lives, and no one will ever forget the impact she had on all of us.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in Indie’s honor to one of her favorite charities: Canadian Food for Children. https://www.canadianfoodforchildren.net
